If it has the quick lube type with the zerk the proper way to lube them is to raise the tire/wheel off the ground so you can just rotate the tire/wheel as you pump grease into the fitting. This allows the grease to enter the bearings as you rotate. If you don't do this, and just grease while the tire/wheel is on the ground, the grease basically just fills up the outer area of the quick lube cup.

yeah we did all that. Lifted the tires and rotated the wheels. Grease came out in a uniform circle around the hose of the gun. I guess the videos I watched on how to do it the grease was much dirtier and easier to see what was new than when we did it. I also didn’t know if I was supposed to leave it in there like that since that is how it was whenI opened it or if I’m a moron and all that matters isthe unseen grease in the axle

I'd say that if it was coming out clean, that's a good thing. I know it takes a TON of grease when it is a brand new axle, unless the factory was generous enough to fill them up for you. It took me just about a complete 3oz tube per axle before I could even see anything coming out. They just grease the bearing from the factory, which isn't a bad thing, but the first time using the EZ Lube's it takes a pile to fill them up, most of that grease just sits in there and doesn't do anything though, its just in there taking up space.

Just get a bit of fresh grease in it yearly. Keeping it full helps to keep the water and dirt out. Don't over think it. We don't jack up none of ours to do it.

I highly recommend switching out to oil bath hubs - it is not expensive, at least for my trailer, and the piece of mind from being able to quickly check/change the oil is precious. Just picked up the new mower, side by side, and tractor trailer. Only weights 990 lbs and you don't even know it's behind you empty. Carries 6k pounds and should polish up nice. Just need an 8 inch drop hitch to level it. The back of these Rangers is definitely too tall. Tried the golf cart first and didn't drag in the middle so everything else should be no problem. Now to start the mods.

I'm curious, has anyone towed a small skid steer on a light duty equipment trailer?
I've spec'd out a combination that would be within capacity, just curious if anyone else has done so.

I've posted pics of my boat before ( https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/what-are-you-guys-towing.1768/page-91#post-544099 ), but I finally towed it some distance. I went from Des Moines, Iowa to Port Washington, Wisconsin (~400 miles) with it last week. And back, of course, though the return trip was a little different route. Towed perfectly well. I got ~10.8mpg on the outbound trip there (according to the trip computer) using 91 octane. We had a lot of headwind on the way to Lake Michigan, something like 30mph wind off the lake.

On the way home I fueled up with 93 octane for my first tank, and we had a tailwind about the same as my drive out. I was getting 15mpg, according to the onboard computer. I made it from Winthrop Harbor, IL all the way back to Iowa City on the first tank (~260 miles), then refilled with 91 octane and MPGs dropped to 13. We still had a good tailwind, so not sure if the economy decrease was due to the fuel or the increasing hills.

Anyway, the truck towed the 6000+ pounds payload with no problems. I went 68 on the highways (speed limit was 70), usually slowed down a little as semi trailers passed me to make the air shockwave a little easier to handle. Easy peasy for the truck. Trailer sway would start at about 72mph, which was exactly how the Uhaul/Silverado 1500 behaved when I towed with that. On the drive out the headwind stunk though, had to stop for fuel several times. On the way home we were ready for a pit-stop by the time the fuel was getting empty, so no real complaints there.

Fun times. Hopefully the truck lasts me a while. It is mighty handy to be able to move the sailboat without renting a truck.

Just back from a 500 mile round trip with the newly updated, and what I consider, the final version of, our setup. Fully loaded for 3 people and about 10-15 gallons of water in the fresh tank.

And the Blackstone Tailgator in the bed, because is is about 1" too tall to fit in the f-ing basement of the trailer without taking it apart.......damnit.

We highly recommend the James Island County Park campground. Super nice facility, although a little high for a county park, it is a very very nice park.

NICE RIG! What's the weight/tongue weight? I'm looking to upgrade to a Salem FSX at around 4000/450 and not sure....
