  1. Bak Revolver X4s tonneau cover problems

I've got a ford branded hard tonneau, which I guess is just a ford-branded bak revolver (came with the truck when I bought it as a CPO). It's having the same delamination problem. I'm thinking to just glue it where it's delaminating. I wonder if anybody has recommendations of glue or tape...
  2. Engine block heater recall

This is wild. I have not yet received a recall notice, but I used, or tried to use, my block heater for the first time this week. I have a '21, it came with the block heater from the factory. The last couple of years have been pretty warm in Iowa but this week has been bitterly cold so I...
  3. Manual Trans Swap MT88

Av8or1 sold their ranger a bit ago: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/buy-my-ranger.35816/ I doubt we'll see any updates on this thread concerning an MT swap unfortunately. I still hope somebody else goes through the dirty work to tell us what needs done. I'd very much like to do the swap...
  4. Clearview Towing Mirrors

I bought a pair used from a seller here on the forums. I got the compact version. Install was super duper easy with a little trick: I had a super low profile ratchet that I bought for hard to reach places. Was able to slip a T30 torxbit into this thing, and undo the bolt behind the door card...
  5. Ohio Clearview Compact tow mirrors (Fully loaded)

Just wanted to post: got the mirrors, got them installed, they work great: folding, telescoping, lights all work (I will find out in a few weeks if the heat works, but I'm confident it will ;-)). cfhgarza is a good seller. THANK YOU!
  6. Ford 10R80 Remanufactured Automatic Transmission Recalled Over Shifting Issue

Regarding the odd "8000 miles" thing, this other article has a little more info: https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2025/rebuilt-ford-10r80-transmission-recall-missing-t10-bearings.shtml Specifically: The problem was discovered in July when a 2019 Ford Mustang customer complained the car...
  7. Ohio Clearview Compact tow mirrors (Fully loaded)

I'll bite, will send you a DM.
  8. boat towing on the ball

I'm curious what kind of boat you're towing, whether it's fin keel, full keel, or swing/centerboard. I tow a pretty big boat: an S2 7.9. The boat itself weighs ~5000 pounds, trailer is ~1300, for a total of 6300 (measured at a CAT scale). The keel is a lifting centerboard that weighs 600 pounds...
  9. Manual Trans Swap MT88

This thread is a great read. Manual swap is on my radar. As with others, I'd pay good money for a swap kit. I was super excited to learn that our transfer case mates up with the mt88 and that the transmissions are the same length. A few extra notes: Bronco flywheel: MB3Z-6477-A (~$250) Bronco...
  10. How often do you use 4L?

it's a flood control reservoir. the level of the reservoir goes up and down 70 feet depending on how much rain there is. the ramp goes all the way to an upper lot with a few buildings on it, built quite a bit above the max level of the lake for 'just in case' I guess.
  11. How often do you use 4L?

Also like Andrew27 says: best to give a whirl every now and then. So you long as you go straight, I see no problem engaging it on pavement for a few feet. If you're paranoid, find a dirt lot to do it. I like to switch my transfer case into 4hi and 4lo every once in a while, not because I think...
  12. How often do you use 4L?

I use 4lo when I'm hauling my boat out. Our ramp is STEEP, the boat+trailer is ~6300 pounds. I just keep the wheels straight and use crawl control to go up the ramp at a leisurely 2ish mph. Once I'm over the top I shift into 2wd. I tried to haul out at my ramp with a 2wd truck once, it did not...
  13. Why do you back in when parking?

Safety. I've worked as a consultant for power companies, where they take safety to the extreme. Two different electric utilities (in different countries!) had the same rule: always back into parking spaces. They found that, statistically, you are less likely to crunch a bumper or hit a...
  14. Ford trailer brake controller install question

I decided to build a little test harness for my TBC today. Pretty easy, I used a RV wiring box from that forest place ($30), and wired up a bunch of LEDs I had from miscellaneous electronics projects. I used a 12 ohm high watt resistor on the brake line, with a blue led (and 2kohm resistor) in...
  15. Stuck in 4 high. 4x4 Dial selector no lights. Fuses good. No check engine light.

I noticed this with my truck. The trailer light fuse was blown. I couldn't tell by looking at it either. If you have a multimeter that has 'continuity test' mode it can be very helpful: pull the fuse out, stick one lead in each side of the fuse, and your meter should beep audibly if the fuse...
  16. Ford trailer brake controller install question

Spiffy, thanks all. Yeah I may make myself a break-out cable with a couple of bulbs set up for all the trailer lights too, might turn out useful for troubleshooting my truck and others' trucks some day. Good note about not going too high on bulb wattage. I may put a little potentiometer on the...
  17. Extra wires under the dash kickpanel?

I installed ford's trailer brake controller over the weekend. Underneath the dash kickpanel there was the expected blue and yellow wires that go to the trailer brake controller itself. But there were two extra little wires in the yellow+blue wire bundle, taped up out of the way with heat shrink...
  18. Ford trailer brake controller install question

Yeah I wish I had a photo, but those pins definitely LOOKED to be all the way in (the metal ends were all the way at the end of the plastic plug). I'll never know if they could have gone in further, I'm not about to redo things to try again ;-). Now I wish I had a nice way of testing to be...
  19. Ford trailer brake controller install question

Welp, I ended up just cutting the original connector off and using some nice butt splices to attach the TBC leads to it. What a pain. Overall I give the Ford TBC install process a 3/10. The instructions aren't great (in fact, they had a url that is wrong...the qr code works though), the interior...
  20. Ford trailer brake controller install question

I've disassembled my truck and gotten to to the step where I connect the wiring harness of the TBC into the brake light above the cabin. But my 'female' connector won't connect. There is a little white shim that is supposed to slide in and hold the three wires in place. The shim simply won't go...
