Has anyone done a complete 2019 Ranger oil/filter change by themselves yet?

Fumoto FTW. Had them in all my vehicles. Never had any problems and after the first oil change. Everything else was so much easier and quicker. Just remember the valve is closed before adding oil. I almost made that mistake. haha. I was able to unscrew the filter with my hand.

Went with Mobile1 full syn and NAPA platinum filter at 9k. Having a oil analysis done on the factory stuff to see the breakdown.
Just as an additional PSA for people reading this that aren't up on the Fumoto valve, you need the valve and the extension in order to install on the Ranger's recessed pan, afterwards, it's absolutely easy to drain the oil.

Are you running a drain tube off the valve? I'm really interested in running this setup. If anyone has a chance to get a picture of their setup I would appreciate it. Just curious how it looks.

yes, I have a short piece of hose I hook up just when I'm doing the oil change. I'll try to remember to take a picture when I do the oil this week sometime.

Is anyone running a magnetic drain plug? I was thinking about getting one but wouldn't be able to with the Fumoto valve.

Ready for the 1st at 5K. Oil life indicator says 53% remaining. I towed about 2300 miles too (using tow/haul) My Casita must not have been too much of a challenge! BTW, the oil is $21.57 on Amazon before a $10 rebate, max $40 rebate per household.

I either use regular Mobil1 or the extended protection (15K miles). But I change it between 7 and 9k miles depending on convenience, and price of oil. I would do the yearly protection if I only drove a few thousand miles a year in large spurts.

The whole change costs me like 23$ with a mobile 1 filter because they offer a big ol' rebate a few times a year, and I usually buy enough for the year. I also have the Fumto, so it's going to be mad cake easy.
Something to consider.... Mobil 1 recommends Annual Protection Ultimate Full Synthetic SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil for our Rangers because of the turbocharger and related high temperatures,. Annual protection also has the lowest Noack Volatility rating (compared to the silver label, high mileage and truck/SUV oils), which is important for our direct injection gas engines.

Check it out at the Mobil 1 site... plug in 2019 Ford Ranger.. https://mobiloil.com/en/product-selector

I’m good, of course they recommend their most expensive oil for every reason. I’ve been using straight sn+ oil since it came out, if I were to switch now it would be penzoil platinum plus.

I appreciate the information though.

I'm running this oil as well, been very happy with it. Changed the "break in" oil out at 1,000 miles and going to perform oil changes every 7,500 miles.

From what I can tell it looks like these are all the parts that I'll need to switch out to the Fumoto system. Is anyone using the 90° hose adapter from the drain?

I'd like to buy one of these setups. It's a pain in the ass to do a clean pill change on this setup. I ended up hold the drain plug in place to regulate the flow of oil. Was afraid it was going to go everywhere if I didn't.

another thing is you'll never have to worry about buying/cleaning/emptying a drain pan. Depending which one you use; it can go freeking everything. With this it can be drained right into a container.

And people complained about getting to the oil filter on the Ranger thru the fender well.... Wow. That does seem pretty difficult. Glad I made the right choice. :)

Hi Rob,

This Taco system is so customer unfriendly, I cannot imagine the thinking to ever put something like this filter system in place. In the case of Ranger, the 2016 Aussie platform was used and fitting with a North American engine is going to result in compromises that the Aussie's did not have. I accept the filter removal from the left wheel house is part of this compromise. Having done a few "one off" installs, eg SHO Ranger, you have to make some tough decisions..but to do what Toyota did is way over the top..has to be that they are driving the customer to not do any DYI projects...make the dealer money as DYI saves money...Sad, Sad, Sad!

I haven't done my first oil change yet, but my 2004 Honda Accord has access to the oil filter on the passenger side wheel well, and I really like it. Much easier than laying on my back and dealing with it under the car. For the Ranger, worst case is that I have to take the wheel off and it will just give me an excuse/make me rotate the tires (I've always been bad at rotating tires regularly). I really don't see it as a huge deal on the Ranger.

The Taco procedure is quite over the top. I know when I test drove mine they were giving 2 years of free maintenance when you bought it, but that would be a royal PITA after the two years was up.

I like doing oil changes myself on all my vehicles so that I know quality products were used and it was done right. I've seen too many horror stories about oil changes to trust it to someone else. Plus, it gives me an opportunity to look a the vehicles up close for any issues.
