I’m on exactly the same schedule as you except I’m already at 19k and I haven’t yet done the diffs.

When you are a car guy [or girl] you gotta do one of two things: 1. find a Car guy [or girl] to service you OR 2. Do it yourself...I’m cancelling the $1,715+tax 100k mile maint pkg on 2019 Ranger Lariat FX4 tonight - had 1st dealer service today, never again. Rotated tires, I have @ 42/45 for towing, didn't chk just rotated - now I have 45/42, wtf. Smelled fresh oil getting on the freeway, almost afraid to look under the hood (1st Ranger oil change for the young mechanic). The 7500 mi interval on a MC filter & blend oil on a 4 cyl turbo doesn't give me warm fuzzies on this lasting 20+ yrs, regardless of what Ford says. After seeing diff plugs @ 1k, yikes! Will be changing that fluid ASAP. Might as well get some use out of my Atlas 2 post lift. Will change oil @ 10k, Mobil1 WixXP filter, Amsoil in diffs & xfr.
I feel the same,10K just seems like a long time between changes. I don't drive many miles as everything is so close by me it would take me 1.25 years to do 10K lol. Like you I think I'm going to do 5K mile intervals. It may be a waste of money but I just feel more comfortable doing it.I know there have been excellent advances in metal, engine, and oil technologies but I just don't feel comfortable going 10,000 miles between oil changes. I realize that is the manufacturer recommendation but I feel like that's a gimmick just to get you through the warranty period. I plan on going 5k intervals. I might even use full synthetic because turbo. I've already started using 92 octane on my first fill-up.
I know I'm not the norm, but 10K barely gets me 2.5 months. I usually split the difference between 7500 and 10K. I put 100K on an ecoboost engine doing that, and it seemed to age just fine.I feel the same,10K just seems like a long time between changes. Driving more puts less wear on an engine. If you're driving that much I don't blame you for not changing your oil as often. Especially if the manufacturer doesn't recommend it.I know I'm not the norm, but 10K barely gets me 2.5 months. I usually split the difference between 7500 and 10K. It's better than the 2 gallons of oil in my last vehicle that needed changing every 6800 miles. After the EGR fell off on one of the back roads, the oil would last a lot longer. My only concern is fuel dilution, but I've been to busy to capture a sample for blackstone.Driving more puts less wear on an engine. I think we might get along wellI still don't understand how anyone can be comfortable going more than 500 miles between oil changes. 3k miles is just a scam to sell more engines.
I got my oil changed and tires rotated yesterday at 3,200. That's a little early on both counts, I know, but I was in the dealer's for some other work, and so I thought, better earlier than later, and anyway, the oil change is free (that is, paid in advance) with my Lifetime Oil Club card.Ditto. Get first 2 free, so got first one today at 5k. Oil and rotate.
What dealer where you at?
That's definitely the right approach for the prudent owner.I change my oil every time I fill up
I'll take a stab at it - I had the 1st oil change done @ 7k @ Columbia Ford in Longview, WA. At the 7k service, they rotated the tires, without checking the psi (issue 1) - this is where the 42/45psi plays a role. I asked if they could download the latest system updates, since our web connection at home sucks - they said $65 charge (all they had to do was connect it to their wifi and let it update, prob a 5 min task if a decent connection) - issue 2. Then I asked if they would use full synthetic instead of the blend, that would be $45 (the selling dealer, Courtesy Ford in Portland, said they would only charge me $20) - issue 3. Since Columbia was the only conveniently located dealer for service and I had 3 issues with them on the first service visit, I drove to Courtesy Ford and cancelled the maint contract. I will do the next LOF myself @ 10k, and then @ 5k intervals. I will be using Mobil1 full synthetic and Wix filters. Less cryptic?thats some kryptic post there. is there a translation ?
Do what what you want, but the manual says 10K miles or one year, whichever comes first. It's covered on page 437 of your owner's manual.I feel the same,10K just seems like a long time between changes.
