Changed my "Break-In" oil at around, 1,100 miles and following a 7,000 service interval there after. I have 6,000 miles on Shell Rotella GT 5w30 right now and just checked it on my fill up last night. Still looks fairly clean. 10,000 miles service intervals falls under "normal operating conditions". There are "special operating conditions" as well.... used to be known as "severe service". Consider reading your manual and see it you will need to follow these service intervals. Not everyone SHOULD be following a 10,000 miles service interval.

Here up north, we are all considered to be in "severe service" conditions.

I feel the same,10K just seems like a long time between changes. I don't drive many miles as everything is so close by me it would take me 1.25 years to do 10K lol. Like you I think I'm going to do 5K mile intervals. It may be a waste of money but I just feel more comfortable doing it.
Another in agreement with the shorter oil change intervals. Cafe standards probably forced that the oil be thin. I'm going to change every 5000 let the dealer do it every 10,000

Looks like I'm running exactly on the 10,000 oil change schedule. 2,800 miles of it has been highway at 72 mph.

Is the "engine oil life%" which shows up on screen based on any sort of oil quality or viscosity sensor or is it simply based on the number of miles since the last oil change?
Thanks

Ford probably using some equation based on miles, weather, time and driving dynamics to calculate it. mine came out fairly close for the recommended oil change interval for "normal" driving conditions.

I went to Mike Bass Ford in Elyria, Oh.
I live in NW Ohio & go to Raibe Ford or Reineke Ford. Good service depts. I try to change the oil myself if possible or take to shop I can watch closely:) . Truck has only had 3 oil changes..well in 7k total mis. 1st early OCI's were for break- in purposes & oil /filter upgrades etc. Running Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 SN+ along w/ Bosch Filtech oil filter (made by WIX to Bosch specs). The awesome 2.3L EcoBoost in this truck really benefits from a full synthetic oil. Motorcraft semi-syn is very high quality no doubt but do not run it over 5k mis If you choose that. Either way you must use an SN+ rated oil. Non relating..but I too have read simply running 93 octane premium nets you 300hp! No tunes needed. I use 89 or 93 only.

I have just under 8k miles. Getting it changed in the morning.
Good idea! Hope this isnt ur 1st oil change!? If it is, hope you upgraded to full synthetic SN+ rated motor oil. Never going over 5k mis in these very high tech EcoBoost engines is common knowledge. 1 Ă— wont hurt anything but running a real good oil from now on along w/ @ least 89 octane fuel ...better yet 93 octane ..will make ur Ranger run awesome & last a real long time! Keep on Ford truckin!

3800 miles & just did my 1st LOF & Rotate, mostly b/c its 10/19 in northern IL and 68 degrees today, not too many of those left! Since I have to work with garage door open figure its best to do it a bit early, NOT keen on having a teenager touch it at the stealership. Anyways watched a few YouTube videos etc. Wix Filter [one of my fave brands] Citgo Synthetic 3Q 0w20 & 3Q 5w20 [farm & fleet private label].

Not too bad, a bit of a pain in the A$$ tho.. Took down 2pc skid/cover plate [4x4] 15mm bolts, I did not have the proper size filter cup so I had to use my large channels this time. Nice surprise filter was NOT on Mongo-the-Ape tight; my wife's OEM filter on her '16 Escape was on so tight I almost thought I wasn't gonna get it off! All in all not bad, tedious..I just dont see a shop offering $29 LOF's taking the time needed to do it right and wipe stuff as they go to make sure it doesn't drip for days. I actually bought a can of engine degreaser b/c the videos made it seem like a huge mess, etc. Just need a can of brake clean to spray off around after you put new filter on before the well liner/flap reinstall. This will get me thru winter, I'm only putting about 1k miles on a month so Feb/March 2020 should be warm enough to do with garage door open. I'm figuring about a 4-5,000 interval right now.

Cheers!

BTW Ford pass said oil was 65% before I changed it. I reset at the dash/info center. within about 15 min FP said it was at 100%...
I too am running 4-5k OCI max. In fact, the 1st -2 oil changes on my new Ranger were real early. I use Pennzoil Platinum or Penn Ultra Platinum full synthetic 5w30. Both SN+ rated w/outstanding used oil analysis every time I've gotten em! Cant go wrong w/ WIX filters. I run Bosch filtech on all 3 my Fords. Its made by Wix to Bosch spec. I use Motorcraft as well it's very well made an Ford specs are stringent. Never go over 5k OCI w/these killer EcoBoost motors is what Roush an a few other reputable shops have stated ..well if you want trouble free 200k mis+ like I do

I dont know why but the citgo I used was super dirty after only 2k miles so after some [lots actually] research I'm now using the Castro Edge...

Yup. My first oil change. I figured I would do about every 7500 miles even though the computer had me in a 10,000 interval. Was a little late cause of a trip I was on.

I feel that the engineers know more about this engine than I do so I'm not going to change unnecessary too early. Also, I'll put the oil viscosity they recommend.

Again, I trust they know more than me and my dad who still insisted every 3,000 miles.

Lastly, it runs fine on the 87 octane. It's also $.55 cheaper per gallon.

Well , I will say this from a mechanical engineering standpoint an lifelong car/truck hobbyist pt of view. If you insist on running the oil change intervals out to 7500mis an that's entirely ur choosing... as well as the owners manual recommendation. U had better use a FULL SYNTHETIC 5w30 SN+ rated motor oil! Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum or Castrol Edge etc should all be SN+ rated by now. I dont go past 5k mis. This Is a high performance engine in every sense. Motorcraft filters are perfectly fine. I use 89-93 octane fuel only. U can use 87 but will never get the full performance of this magnificent engine. Keep truckin!

I go to Reineke Ford in Lima, Ohio. Altho mostly have a trusted shop handle my oil changes using my preferred oil & filter. They charge me $25 for labor! Ford dealer will let me bring my own stuff to but higher pricing an I cant watch them do it:(

FWIW, I had a service department tell me it's based on revolutions.

that’s full bullshit. My dad never goes over65 mph and his popped at the 5-6000 mile mark (1 year ish). I driv 80-85 on the regular, 6k rpm frequently. Mine still says I have 14% when hit the 8k mark ( about every 3 months).

That's why I said FWIW. I would think idling would play a part.
