You are living dangerously pulling that without a weight distribution hitch and sway control!

That's a big camper! Looks good. What is that, about 6000 pounds dry?

Yeah that's beast. Minimal squat, no sway bar or

Even without weight distribution, it doesn't look like there's much squat. But still....pucker factor is a box checked.

He's got another post about his pull. Talks about being at or over GCVWR.
He's running air bags to counter the squat. Doesn't do anything to get any wait back on the front axle. Doesn't look like he had any mirror extentions either. That's why I said scary.

I'm not gonna sugar-coat this, I've tested those waters?.

I'm fly. I'm pilot.
It is actually my brother's trailer I am borrowing it to move some stuff. 7 x 14 covered wagon brand. It is right around 1800/2000lbs unladen if not mistaken.

Here are some specs:

Man I traded my dad trucks in order to tow his 7x14. I just felt it was a BIT too much trailer for my truck. Not the weight but the frontal area. I also didn't have a weight distributing hitch for it.

I was gonna say I'm not sure that pop-up will survive desert off-roading, but then you mentioned you added the lift on the trailer. haha I'd be interested to see what it looks like now. I know you can purchase pop-ups that are essentially prelifted and off-road decked out, but lifting a regular road ready one is interesting.
Lol yea I know what you mean, not trying to beat this one up haha

Here's a pic with the lift. The wheels were basically tucked before

Pulled a trailer with surge brakes for the first time ever today.

WEIRD AF

U-Haul auto transport.
I pulled a 1998 Buick LeSabre across most of Ohio with a U-Haul tow dolly. NO trailer breaks whatsoever. It pulled just dandy, but 4,500 lbs extra behind you with no breaking help is pushing the limit. ?

That sounds fun!

The surge brakes worked well. Just a little weird when coming to a full stop. Took some getting used to.

Thought about the dolly, but full trailer wasn't much more and the Jeep I was moving has suspension damage.

Just about all boat trailers have surge brakes. They are a little different but reliable and work well.

Definitely worked well for the intended purpose. Much better than no brakes. Makes a lot of sense for a company like UHaul, takes tow vehicle capabilities somewhat out of the question beyond weights which are easy enough to find.

Not sure if the brakes on the rental needed some work or not. The clunking was disconcerting, but I figured that was the actuator moving. First time I hopped out and looked, thought I might have had a problem.

Now I know what to expect if I ever get a boat.
