I have gotten a lot of awesome info from this forum so I thought I would share some results. This was with the Livernois soft shift with 92 octane. I have some bolt ons installed (FP Borla Exhaust, AFE Charge Pipe, AFE Downpipe, and Turbo Smart BOV). waiting on Mishimoto CAI to ship this month. I was aiming for "Henessey Numbers" (I think 330 hp and 440tq). Fell a little short but still very impressed with the drivability and power. The gentleman conducting the test did say he was hitting the speed limiter so I'm guessing theres more power in there. Not sure how to get to the last 40hp and tq. in any case I just wanna say thanks for the wealth of information and shout out to Livernois for high quality product.

Very Good !
Regards

EDIT: Those hennessy numbers are at the crank, you have exceeded their rear wheel numbers in torque..You are at 394 lb/ft of torque at the rear wheels...

“The stock Ranger is equipped with a 2.3 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, rated at 270 horsepower at the crank. In this dyno video on Hennessey's YouTube channel, the base truck is good for 243 wheel horsepower and 267 lb/ft of torque.

After adding Hennessey's performance software and their stainless steel cat-back exhaust system, Hennessey claims 360 horsepower at the crank and 440 lb/ft of torque. On the dyno, that translates to a respectable 306 wheel horsepower and 374 lb/ft of torque.”
Regards Again..

Has anyone gotten a dyno pull with the 89 tune? That's what I'm running now an I'm guessing it's probably about half of the 93 improvement. I know it's no muscle car killer but it sure is fun for a 4 cylinder truck.

I've been running the 91 to 93 Performance Tune on 91 octane for a few days now and here's what I've noticed:
  • It goes through the gears with much more pull, especially if you get on it. The revs are better and the shifts are much more precise.
  • The shifting isn't as jerky as day one when I first loaded it, seems to have adapted to my driving a bit but maybe it's in my head.
  • I typically stay soft on the pedal and when doing so it will skip 2nd gear. I don't have an issue with this as it is still way better than the Ford programming where they skip second. If you accelerate at normal instead of feather it grabs second.
  • When you decide you want to get on it, well it goes! Before you know it your through 60 and on your way to 70 plus! Haven't had a vehicle with that much go since my 87 Ford Mustang GT.
  • I haven't played that much with Sport mode but I can't say it's any quicker than regular mode when you get on it. I'll have to do some comparison tests to see if it is quicker.
  • I find it way more fun to drive and easier to live with. To be honest I though the Ford programming for the shift patterns sucked.
  • LIvernois has exceptional customer service. They really are there to help you out.
  • No update on my fuel economy yet as I'm still on the same tank of gas but vehicle is showing 19.1 right now which is about what I was getting pre tune in our very small town. Lot's of 1/4 mile stops at lights and stop signs. I have a 2 mile commute to work so it's content stop and go which kills mileage. That being said maintaining the same MPG while getting on it several times tells me it's getting better mileage than before. Note that I've also had the auto shut off disabled so no more putting up with that annoying feature but I'm sure in impacts mileage.
Overall I'm extremely pleased with the Livernois tune. I've also been reading good things about the Ford Performance Tune but I liked the ease of dealing with Livernois and being able to change tunes as I want to, and being able to contact them with any questions I may have. In fact Livernois told me that if the dealer updates anything to let them know and they will adjust the tunes, now that's great service!

Next tank of fuel I'm going to try out the 91 to 93 soft shift tune and see how that one goes. I'll report back with my thoughts on that one also.

Thanks,
Scott

Nice review, thanks! Mine tuner is arriving today and I'll upload it tomorrow at a friends as I need his PC. I hate waiting for the UPS guy!

I just received my tunes from Livernois I had only requested the 87 tune but they where nice enough to send me everything they had to offer. They also sent me a new stock tune since mine was three behind as well. Definitely glad I went with them!

Spend the extra few bucks next time and try out the 93! Before tune I had put a few tanks of 87 in before browsing through the forum and decided to try out 93 and I haven’t switched back since! I’m not going to overhype it but I would say the drive just feels a little more refined? Maybe the wrong word but it feels like it glides on the road with a tad more smoothness imo. Definitely feel the difference with the 93 performance tune though! Driving around normally I would say you can definitely feel that you have more power if you were to step on it but it’s not trying to over extend itself when you just want to casually drive. when you throw that foot down though your ranger will feel like a different truck for sure.

Even on a stock tune there is a noticeable performance difference when running 87 vs 91 or 93. The ECU has the ability to figure out the octane and adjust timing, etc. to prevent detonation. Running on 87 retards the timing. The 87 and 93 tunes make this even more noticeable.

UPDATE to my post

I played around a bit in Sport Mode and it definitely makes a difference. It's a lot more snappy and you'll easily break away the rear tires if you get on it or if there is any moisture on the road. The gears are held on to longer and you can feel it just pull. I wouldn't recommend it for everyday driving but it's a great mode for when a kid in a 3 series BMW pulls up next to you thinking he's a bad ass! LOL

So, I pulled the trigger on the Livernois since all you folks had good info and I found the C.A.R.B. EO at the the Air Resources website + looked at the Livernois video. Interesting that both Ford and Livernois had the same EO number for Lefty Koast release.

Looking forward to the fun!!

PS - I mostly blame @Doc and @AzScorpion for this expenditure ;)

I suspect Livernois is the supplier for the Ford version, but you didn’t hear me say that.
