Best way to check oil on these is to pull stick and wipe on a warm engine. Give it about 5 mins for all oil residue to drain back on tube. Then check your level.

A quick in-out picks up the drag back from initial pull. It’s misleading when you read it.

Against the manual, I tend to prefer to check my oil when the engine is cold after sitting overnight. Oil can get thrown up into the dipstick tube when the engine is running. This can cover the dipstick as it gets removed in checking the oil level giving a false reading. At least that is how it has been on my past vehicles. Thankfully my oil level has never been above the top hole as shown in the manual.

The first picture scared me seeing oil up by the FoMoCo lettering. The second picture the lower hole is filled with oil but the upper one is not. Which it should have been if just sitting below the oil level.

Keep an eye on it and if it still seems high take it to the dealer to confirm. An engine with too much oil is not a good thing.

I’m not gonna get dragged into one of these arguments again, but somewhere on the fuel in oil thread on about page 60 something out of 12,000 or whatever it is on now, I was saying how my truck had a slight fuel in oil smell. Long story short I drove the truck and it now has 11,000 miles on it. No fuel in oil smell. Break the truck in before you worry about it. Just my $.02.

Well, I’m OCD so I did an oil change. Not including the oil in the filter, almost 7 quarts came out. Zoom in on the picture, you can see the measurement lines.

Mine was high when new too but I didn't notice it as soon as you did. I had the dealership correct the oil level an did an oil change at 3K.

Hopefully it was just overfilled from the factory. I'd let it break in some before getting all worked up over it.

I'm still puzzled how you got the stick to look so full compared to that amount, though.

Interesting. Glad it's not as bad as it looked initially.
6qts and a cup brings mine to the full mark after run and settling.
I didn't post any pictures.

It calls for 6qts and a cup... so there ya go!
Agreed that is not even 6 and a half quarts, real close to correct.

judging by the lines, thats closer to 6 than it is 7.
to say "almost 7" isnt correct unless youre trying to convince yourself of a problem that doesnt exist.

save the oil for your lawnmower, i dont think its saturated with fuel.

for confirmation, send a sample to blackstone
I noticed that also. I was waiting for somebody to say it clearly to confirm what I was seeing.

For some reason with this truck I have a hard time getting the dipstick out without oil smeared all over it. I never had that issue with other vehicles but with my Ranger I ignore the smears on the stick and just look for the "cut-off" from the thicker oil to the smeared part.

I do the recommended method: let it cool 15 mins after its been warmed up.

Exactly! Lets not ruin this new Ranger owner with the "fuel in the oil" thing. Drive it. Change the oil when recommended. Enjoy!
