Why the worry, just top off the engine with gas every fill up and your don't have to worry about it burning off. There will be plenty of gas in the crankcase.
By the way all gas engines smell like gas a little bit when you change the oil. Used diesel oil smells different, so does propane. There is a reason we change oil beyond it breaking down. There are contaminates that need to be removed. Ever notice every piston ring has a gap? Stuff gets by, unless the factory resorted to filing to fit zero gap rings. It's a new technology, direct injection, but it's the same formula, gas in exhaust out.
