The guys that are pulling flatbeds / open car haulers. What kind of drop are you using on the receiver? It appears that it would be around 3" to 4" however i am seeing guys on here saying they use a 6" drop which seems like way to much.

Depends on what kind of ball mount you’re using. The only way you’ll know what you need, is to measure. I used a 6” drop with a WD hitch set up, and realistically, I should run an 8” drop to get everything set up properly

The Ranger's back end is higher than a lot of trucks. I've got my EQ hitch for the RV on the second to lowest setting, and RVs tend to have way more clearance/much higher hitch than those flatbeds.

If you take a picture like this and look at the drop hitch, its not a six inch drop. Maybe a 4" drop. My hitch measures from top of opening to ground 20". The average flat bed is around 17" that math says 3" drop unless i am figuring a wrong measurement somewhere.

There's also (to my eyes) an elevation difference between the truck vs the trailer. The trucks back axle is a few inches lower than the trailer's front axle. Though I could be getting tricked by the shape of that driveway...

Could also just be the angle of the picture?

In addition, the factory hitch on the Ranger seems to be tucked up at a higher position than the hitch on many other trucks. After measuring, I bought a ball mount with a 7.75" drop from U-Haul for my boat trailer. It all depends on the coupler height of the trailer and they vary a lot from trailer to trailer. A small utility trailer (with small tires) that you would typically see hauling a lawn tractor is going to need a ball mount with considerable drop.

First of all, who put the black rail fence in my yard!?!?!

The driveway dips 1* to the right. Pennsylvania has a northern gradient of 3.45 degrees downward to the north. My lawn, where I took the photo has a mild downward grade of 3 degrees away from the driveway. Photo was taken after 3 IPAs; accuracy of camera angle is a delta and may be inaccurate.

Now seriously, the hitch is a 4” drop. I adjusted the amount of rear drop on the truck by a very scientific method: I moved the car. It only takes inches to balance the trailer and you have to do it right. Set your angle of attack, resist having it too low (avoids trailer sway) and avoid having the truck’s butt in the air (jackknife potential).

I used to own a classic car transport business. Trust me when I say, balance the trailer. Note my handle- make sure the fat horse isn’t standing too far in front.

Sorry for my sarcasm and bad humor tonight. Bad day at work! I do appreciate what you guys are posting but seriously, I’m incredibly impressed by the Ranger. The stability is just phenomenal.
Here’s another photo after the Corvette was loaded a second time. No IPAs were harmed

Pulled this through the hills of the driftless region in WI. The parent's have a new Super Duty but couldn't find the adapter for the hitch. I would say around 3500 lbs with a single pony in back? Did very well, power was not an issue. BTW, that driveway was no joke.

I missed this post before. The Raptor wheels look great on white! Are those 265/70R17 tires?

I'm using a hitch with 0" drop. It does need probably a 2" drop though since the rear of the trailer sits pretty close to the ground. I just move the car a little further forward to help squat the truck a little more if needed.

Anybody else just blown away by this truck? Towing my 23’ 7000lb trailer up into the mountains and not reving above 3500 rpm’s up steep grades at 60 mph just blows my mind that there’s a stock 4 banger under the hood. I’m just loving this truck. Add me on Instagram and I will add you back. Can’t get enough of seeing other people’s rigs. Here’s a few from my story today. Enjoy

Yes,every time I get in this truck I am! I know engines and technology have come a long way but I'm still blown away that this is just a 4 cyl tucked underneath the hood. All my F150's were 5.0's and honestly this truck is so much more user friendly (size) with still more than enough power and torque wrapped into and smaller package that I fell suits most average truck owners.

I don't tow but just going up north and climbing from 1000'-5000' in elevation averaging 75-80 mph it held right around 2200 rpm's where the same trip in my Tacoma was 3500+ rpm's and a few steep inclines I remember it hitting 5000. Ford really hit a home run with the 2.3 and the 10 speed transmission,it's by far the smoothest shifting truck I've ever owned. :D

Did you make use of the gear lock out capability to keep it from up-shifting on steep Uphill and Downhill sections?
