Who says this? I haven't looked much, but I've not seen any reports.
While there have been reports of fuel in the oil, I've not seen any that reported blowing an engine due to fuel in the oil.

All the ones I've seen are just concern over oil dilution and what it might do to the longevity of the engine.

I sold mine for this reason because it is thinning the oil and causing damage . There are others on here that have had motors blow because of it .
I've been watching these threads pretty carefully and have not seen a single report of a blown motor attributed to fuel dilution. Haven't even seen good evidence of damage (UOAs have all had reasonable wear metal levels), which is a bit surprising given how high the dilution is for some folks.

Makes me think that Ford does know of the dilution and engineered the engine to withstand the thinning.

Yes, but I am not aware of any reports of Ranger engines blowing up because of this. Not saying they don’t exist but I have not seen such reports here on ranger5g.

Oil dilution is not an issue limited to only Ford Ecoboost engines. Many TGDI engines experience this and that includes Mazda and Honda.

This is my 3rd ecoboost, first one was the 3.5 in a Flex. I didnt keep it very long perhaps 22K miles. Wanted a truck, nothing was wrong with it. This was 2010. My next was a 2012 Edge which I traded in for my Ranger in 2019. It had 125K miles on it and never a problem, not one with the engine or tranny. It had the 2.0 in it. I personally dont see a huge issue here, my opinion of course. I have worked in Aerospace industry for 35 years and what I have seen in manufacturing is that no matter how good a product is designed and I have seen many excellent designs, you are going to have problems that come up, this in response to those who have had injectors or pumps replaced so soon. Shit happens! LOL
This is why two things for me:

1: I got a 6 year 100k premium ESP no deductible and same day loaner/rental from Flood Ford. I want to keep the truck and this lowers my risk.
2: I had the transmission valve body replaced at 2200 miles. Things happen even with a solid design. Recurrence would be an issue but a single event isn’t a pattern. So I didn’t get upset or say the truck was crap. There are a LOT of moving parts and sometimes things just happen. I chalk this up to the bathtub curve.

Anyway, I have the attitude of if I don’t have the issue during the time I own it under warranty, great. If I do, it’s Ford’s problem. Having all maintenance done at the dealer as well. I know how to do that stuff and this is the first car I won’t do maintenance on other than adding fluids because I want there to be no question about any of that if things go badly. I know changing oil yourself won’t lead to a denied claim but I’m just playing it safe. Also my wife hates that crap staying in the garage until I remember to take it to drop it off. Win win there:like:

Here’s the thing I got with this poll. It has no option for ”none of above”, “none at all” or “was a problem but gone now”

So out of the record sales of these trucks in the last 2 years you see a small number affected. Otherwise this thread would be in the top 10 of alltime on here.

I have 1497 miles on my Ranger. I have been checking the oil. Nothing yet. Oil level is good. Smells like oil.
Here’s the thing I got with this poll. It has no option for ”none of above”, “none at all” or “was a problem but gone now”
^^ this. The poll doesn’t show the full field and therefore it is impossible to ascertain frequency of the issue. THAT I think would be helpful for all of us.

As far as mine was way up the stick at 3400 miles it would sure have blown the motor after a short time . I also noticed eng started to sound different in mine but thought it was cold weather related but I am sure it wasn't after seeing oil level.
Sorry you had any problems, they are certainly no fun

I decided to check mine, I do smell gas but I wouldn't say it reeked..Level of oil is just below full and oil looks normal. I use mobil 1 and change at the 50% point, I am due now so I will ask them to smell and let me know. Will also ask for a sample back so I can have it analyzed.

The other thread is for ALL people who have sent in oil samples for testing. All results are posted, and there's enough data there to get a bell curve of how widespread the issue is and what common range is for fuel content percentages.

I generally recommend people stop smelling their oil and get some hard data, then register it in the other poll. In that thread other data points can be mentioned also, like Month and year, state, climate, auto start/stop disabled, driving distance average, fuel type, oil type and engine manufacture date.

Funny you mentioned that. Right after my post went and requested a test kit. My first change gets a sample for sure

I 100% agree, I dont do maintenance anymore, I've had 6 spinal surgeries and when I do something as simple as an oil change I regret it. Just not worth it anymore, plus Im 62 and the old age bug contributes. I also sprung for a warrantee, I got 125K, Im not one who agrees with those, if nothing goes wrong then its all profit for Ford...BUT! If you drop a tranny at 62K miles that right there pays for the cost of extended. Also its a bit of peace of mind too. Funny thing, Ive worked with Mechanical and electrical engineers all my working career and I have never heard the term "Bathtub Curve" learn something every day.
The reliability for American cars and truck have really improved over the years. I have been a die hard blue bleeding Fordie all my driving life. So Ive been through some crappy cars, not just Fords. All my new car purchases though have been Ford, first one was a `1993 Escort wagon. It was my first new car and it was a good car too. Now a days most cars or trucks are good. competition is too tight to build a POS. Good luck with your Ranger, I sure like mine, and at 62 it could very well be my last new purchase, who knows. I just installed the lettering on the tailgate...

I agree, I did smell mine yesterday and yes it did smell like gas, it also smelled like oil that been in an engine! I expect to smell something "gassy" and I dont mean me! Ive been out on disability since November, so most of my driving is town, no highway, so that could be contributing to a gassy smell. I try and get mine on the highway at least once a week to drive at freeway speed for 10 or so miles...Im taking mine in for an oil change tomorrow. Its due., will get a sample to send in...
