Save your money on the cover unless you just like the looks or want it slightly more quiet , the water needs stopped before it gets to the cover , cowl area should be your focus...

the sad thing is it seems like such a trivial thing for ford to fix. if all the 5g trucks had the cover like the 2019s did it would not be an issue.

I would think if the engine is misfiring, the cause of the misfire should be covered under powertrain warranty unless an animal chewed a wire or something of that nature. The cause comes from a rain/car wash water leak that ford knows about. Shorty after buying my Ranger I discovered this issue and used silicone and flex tape to stop the water from leaking onto the top of the engine. I haven’t had this issue at all since but a quick test pouring water down the front windshield will show you quickly if you have the leak . I hate dealing with my local dealer . Last time I dealt with them they gave me a very hard time . I had to escalate my situation to the owner of the dealership before they took me seriously. Probably less headache to just fix yourself .
Can specify what you did to stop the water intrusion?
TIA

I used clear silicone and sealed the center connection of the scuttle panel . That black plastic trim piece around the wipers. Where the two pieces connect in the center is where the leak happens. If you pop the hood and run water down the center of the windshield you will see immediately where the leak is (it leaks on top of the rear of the engine). I started at the bottom of that plastic piece close to the hood and siliconed the connection down toward the firewall as far as I could . I let the silicone dry and then covered a few sections with black flex tape. I siliconed under the hood seal as well. After I finished, no more leaking . It’s been like this for two years and still holding up today .

i heard it was all for a while then after a year or so it went to just certain trims / packages.

either way ford should be taking care of this much differently.

adding pool noodles, silicone, and sheet tin to a truck to fix issues is something i did to my old dodge farm truck that had clocked over half a million miles of flat out warranty voiding work / abuse. We should not have to engineer or redneck rig trucks that are all less than six years old.
I hope everyone lets that sink in. Sure, all cars and trucks can have issues. but really, basically new trucks and we are already inventing band aids on our own like they are decades old.
if i was connected to ford id be ashamed.

power train warranty only covers the hard parts no electronics... or wiring

I thought/heard only the lariots had one!
Even in 2019, only the Lariats had the cover, not the XL or XLTs. It was removed on even the Lariats in a subsequent model year (not sure when).

Truck was built in something like Dec 2018 or Jan 2019, XLT FX4 with appearance package, no engine cover. My father got his truck 6 months later, lariat, has an engine cover.

That lines up exactly with what I understood. FYI, you can find out exactly when it was built by looking at the blend date on the sticker in the door jamb:

What Rob says. My 19 STX does not have one nor does it have the water issue. ? I don't believe they (FORD) will do anything unless it effects a large # of vehicles.

Mine is "3201901176547". It was made jan 17, and I took delivery Feb 4th (PureMichigan)

I've also got no evidence of water, I've not pulled the boot to check, but the valve cover is dusty, and doesn't have any water stains on it. I just cleaned out some leaves and stuff, and I'm going to stick a piece of split hose on it as soon as I get a chance.
