Yeah, I’m going there
This is to try to get an actual feel for the percentage of forum members who have actually had to have transmission repairs / replacements ( warranty or not) as compared to those who have never had their Ranger in for transmission related issues.
We often read that it’s only a small percentage of owners who have issues resulting in repairs or replacements. Hopefully this sheds some light on that claim. Thanks for participating
Have you tried driving in Tow/Haul mode ?I got 21 tremor. I had rough shift 3-4 but otherwise reasonable. I put 33" skinny tires on and i didn't like the 1-3 shift as it revs high and then bogs down a bit when driving for economy in the city. at 45K km (~28k mi) i dropped pan and it was fairly dark and filled with some lubeguard in it. I think my shifts were 30-40% better. I then bit the bullet and paid for unleashed tune. It now shifts 1-2 (a bit firm if going slow, fine if 10%+ throttle) but the harsh 3-4 shift totally gone right after loading the new programming and changing nothing else.
I'm quite convinced after many many hours of reading that a bunch of the harsh shifting is the CRAP programming on this transmission. The fluid change early i'm sure helps a lot and ensure any bits floating around get out of there and gets some fresh lubrication. The programming unleashed does for smooth shifts was good insurance for me. Driving around with constant hard shifts cant be good for any tranny. Ford is programming them for better MPG regardless of longevity. That's my thoughts on it. I hope i did the work early to save my transmission. There is obviously some factor of what one you got on assembly line, but that + fluid change + programming has to make a long term difference!
I think the change happened in September '22. Mine was built in June '22 so,,, ⏰️
However,,, at 23k I haven't had any issues. It shifts really well since I got it tuned.
That's because they are all following the same mantra, make it faster, lighter, cheaper. (but then charge more for it)Currently? Nobody.
My complaint with Ford is not that they didn't handle the issues, just that it required an awful lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth to get them to cover something that was a very well known and documented issue.
All the manufacturers seem to be having issues right now, but not all the manufacturers are turning a blind eye to their customers.
At about 28,000 it started with delayed/hard shift from first to second only when it was below 40 degrees. All last summer it was fine all the time. In late September on colder mornings it started hard/delayed shifts again and in 3rd to 4th as well. Took it to the dealer they said it needs to be either rebuilt of replaced. Took it in Nov. 11 still waiting on the warranty company to approve the work. I stupidly did not extend the Ford warranty since I had purchased the add on warranty when I bought the vehicle. When I do get it back if it even hiccups it's gone. Too bad because other than this it's been a dependable rig and it looks better than anything else on the market. I drove it to the dealerHow many miles? Symptoms before it puked? Towed to the repair facility?
They do but they don't respond. It's a shame that Ford won't take the time to look through these forums, too really get a feel for how their customers feel when these problems arise. Just my two cents.
Being in the rust belt sucks so bad though, every chassis I come across is one death wobble away from being a driver holding a steering wheel sliding down the road on the seat rails.
Yes i did try that, but i just upgraded to a nice truck and didn't want to have to press the tow button every time i wanted to get in and drive. Also it makes the revs go higher before shifting and holds gears longer which wastes gas. Keeping the truck for the planned 10 years, i might save close to enough gas to justify the tune. Now with the tune it feels like what the truck 'should' have been like and i can enjoy it.Have you tried driving in Tow/Haul mode ?
I remember that commercial.Normally I'd be getting a new one about now but it's been trouble-free and they quit making Supercabs and I'm not ready to give my long bed.
