My 19' Lariat has gotten between 20-21 mpg very consistently. The only difference is when I ran 93 octane. Once I went to 87 due, to the price, my mpg dropped on average 2-3 per gallon. But, I also find I get the best mpg, according to the computer and real-time mpg gage at 84 mph. Seems counterintuitive to me, but that is where I have noticed my best miles-per-gallon numbers for several years.

Same as others. Stock 2020 lariat scab, usually 21-22. Lower if I have big stuff in the bed, higher without AC. I've gotten 24-25 occasionally. I just use the onboard computer and haven't done any calibration changes.

Added: Premium 93 fuel.

Since it was mentioned- just wanted to highlight- The 5g Ranger does not use a MAF Sensor, it only has a MAPT Sensor, Map sensor + incorporated temp.
MPG appears to vary between members quite a bit - the on-board calculation is not accurate as it is running when you are simply idling, so winter blend plus more idle time the MPG tanks.
But for me my average is 20 , mostly city and back country roads. I have not had it on a long trip (highway) yet to really get a good highway (MPG)
You might be surprised on a long haul. I go up to the Oregon coast 2-3 times a year to check on family and I can see mid 24 to 25 sometimes. I only use Premium. I drive smooth and follow the speed limits. Stay outta S and I don't put my foot down on the gas hard. My Tex takes good care of me.

Why is the gas mileage so bad i am getting 14mpg but i do have a 3inch lift and 33inch tires but I was getting 15mpg before the tires and lift and yes i drive easy i replaced the airlifter oil and sparkplugs any other reason why my gas mileage is so bad? (I have tried every bottle of gas injector cleaner)
I drive almost all local and hit 26ish in the summer and 23ish in the winter overall right now 24.8MPH. No special mods...

Mine is alright most of the time except winter - seems to do between 17-19 on the freeway at the posted speed @ 75mph. Winter is also when I get the gas in oil dilution at a much higher rate. I don’t think the truck accounts for lost fuel in its calculation though (unless it’s based on the level in the tank, plus in total oil is overfill by usually a quarter at most after winter) I’m not sure why it drops so much in the winter though. My thought it has something to do with the turbo + cold. My old focus did not drop that mpg much at all.

Every other time of year I’m seeing 19-22 at 75MPH. Once I am going on country roads (55-60) I easily get 26+. The truck seems do the best below 75mph. At 70mph I will get 24-25.

this is all truck calculations I’ve never actually done it by hand.

Ah yes, another mileage thread. When I see one, I make a big bowl of popcorn, grab a beverage and sit back for a good laugh. After reading a number of these, I think I've at least come up with a theory for the wide variation in reported mileage.

Besides location, this includes terran, elevation, temperatures. It is affected by the variety of mods done to the truck. Size, type and weight of tires are a huge factor. Another factor is lift/level and it's affect on aerodynamics of the truck. Racks, RTTs along with all the extra weight continuously carried are also factors. So no one is starting on equal ground.

Now for the biggie, people's driving habits. Many people don't like how the truck drives in "D", so they use Tow/Haul or Sport mode. These tend to keep the engine at a higher RPM. This by nature uses more gas. It also tends to keep the engine on boost more. Being in boost pushes more air the engine, more air more fuel. This feeds into driving the speed limit. Yes I know, a tough thing to do, especially in the western states where the limits are already quite high. But, let's face it the truck really does get it's best highway mileage between 60 and 70 MPH. Over 70 the mileage goes down exponentially, especially when towing. This is again because the engine is again running in boost.

One last comment. The sometimes seemingly incredible mileage figures that get reported are, I believe, on occasional long distance highway trips. Thus have no basis for comparison to everyday driving.

Again these are just my own theories and are free to be contested. I personally do not keep routine track of my mileage. I did not buy my truck with that in mind. I enjoy my truck for what it is and fill the tank up when it gets low. Carry on with the discussion, my popcorn is ready.

I will agree, and yet disagree to an extent. Allow me to elaborate.

When it comes to daily driving, it really depends on what one considers daily driving. For some it is only in the city streets with a bunch of stop and go traffic. For others like myself it could simply be the back road driving because they live in the country areas away from the big city. You might even have those that only drive the HWY because that is simply what their live calls for.

From my experience you will certainly see better numbers when you're doing your backcountry highways or even straight highway travel mainly for the fact that you can usually keep consistent speeds versus when you're in the city dealing with a lot of different traffic lights and stop and go traffic where you're not very consistent with your speed and most people also slam in the throttle versus easing into it.

Again that's really going to depend on what the conditions are for that individual at any given time. I still won't argue with the mileage I was able to get with my 2019 Ranger with the way I had it set up. I still remember that time I ended up getting around 27 miles a gallon on average. It was certainly an oddball time, but I wasn't complaining.

I agree with you on this. Your daily driving schedule is probably the biggest variable in what YOUR long term mileage will be. That is why these fabulous mileage people are reporting getting on one time one trip runs are just that. They are not an average, they are a snapshot.

Thanks, i said MAF/MAP same function but different. Wasn’t sure what we had.

I call bullshit on the lift and tires, I have them too 285/75 I remember having 33s what I dont like about 33s is it looks like you missed leg day, they just dont fill the wheel well?
I run 92 Oct Non-Eth gas, If it just started in the last few month its the winter gas mix, that happens to me starting in Nov. I drop from 22 to 19 and back up in the summer I have gotten as much as 25mpg going from MD/DC to NY they may have better gas down there
I could probably use an air-filter, Plugs and an oil change too LOL

Doesn’t sound right to me. Even with crappy winter gas I get 18-20 in town and 22-23 on highway with topper and camping gear in truck at all times.
