I updated using the download onto USB from the Ford Owner site. I turned off the Automatic Updates and I haven't turned it back on to see if I still get the message after the update.
I will try turning off automatic updates and see where that takes me.

I too have this same issue. Sync 3 appears to be up to date. I turned off automatic updates to see if that helps. We shall see.

If you're talking the network connection needed pop up, you need the latest 19052 release.

That update didn't help me. I still get the message every time I leave the house and my wifi behind. It should be a one time message that you can cancel forever not every time wifi is out of range.

It's a bug. If you check the version from the info screen, it actually shows the correct version?

I believe that's supposed to be shown one time per paired device connection. So, if you have your phone paired, it should show it to you once, then not again unless there's no device connected, or a new device is paired that hasn't accepted yet. Do you have a phone paired?
The same thing happens for mine. My iPhone 7 is paired to the Ranger, and shows it on the home screen. But as soon as I plug it in to use Apple Car Play, I get the same pop up that's shown.

Does it say you have 19052 on the About page? That pop-up was totally removed, so if you're still seeing it (and not the one Murphie is referencing), then I'd say you still need to update.

This one seems like a bug most likely. I was seeing this one on v3.3 from time to time, but I don't recall seeing it lately (unless my phone wasn't around) so it may have been fixed or improved in v3.4.

I installed 19052 via USB because it would not update when connected to wifi. I have a phone paired but sometimes I don't have Bluetooth on when I am using NAV. So, it's paired but not connected. Also, I don't like the fact that it forces the phone display if just want the phone to charge via USB. I think sync 3 should coordinate better with NAV too.

I guess the warning pop-up really means it wants a device paired and connected. I should be given the choice to dismiss it permanently rather than each time I start the engine.

I installed a Wifi access point in my garage and setup Sync to connect to it. I have never been prompted for updates. Never had to do anything, and my Sync is on 19052.

It just seems to keep itself updated automatically.

I believe it’s been mentioned but if you turn off auto updates you won’t get the pop up messages.

Once a month or so I get back on WiFi and check for updates. Then I turn it back off.

Hi Folk,

Okay...went to the Owner website. Downloaded the "latest" for my vehicle...Followed the instructions to load on to a 8GB thumbdrive. Sat in the vehicle until it said complete... It was not 19052...How do I get to this version...Mine was 18351...sheesh... How to I get to 19052? Followed the directions to send update info to Ford...Said I am up to date now???

My 70 year old brain is just flat out of patients with Sync 3. Guy that I worked for climbed the ladder to Executive VP in charge of Product Development...he rushed Sync to market before it was really ready...Lost his job in the poor launch of Sync. Seems they are still in the back woods....An embarrassment to Ford IMO.... Get these little ones and zeros correct before shoving these versions out before rigorous testing!!!!!!

I did the update via USB on my FX4 Lariat a couple of weeks ago because automatic update did nothing via wifi. I followed all the instructions too but had to run it twice. If I remember correctly the Version didn't change so I ended up plugging the thumb drive in a second time and it updated again. It seemed to work the second time and I verified it was finally 19052.

Unfortunately, Phil, this is the direction software development is going. Software is going to a "rapid development/just in time" model where software ships if if "works" (and I use that term VERY loosely). When bugs are found updates are done and updated over the air. QA on software is not anything like it used to be. The flip side is that things have gotten WAY more complex than they were 10-15 years ago, so being able to update easily is a good thing. Security is much improved over what it was 10-15 years ago as well. Back then, security was more of an afterthought.

With that said, I think Ford could still improve on the Sync update experience. It isn't what I'd call seamless.

Good luck - hopefully the next attempt will be successful. I updated and now have the occasional stuttering voice issue.

I successfully did the 19052 update tonight using the USB method (could not get it to work over WiFi). Note - that after the USB install said "completed" and the truck was turned off and started again about 10 seconds later - the version number did not change to 19052. I went back to the truck and started it up about 20 minutes later and it appeared to complete the install and bingo...at 19052!

Will be interesting to see if "automatic updates" will now work over WiFi
