  1. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

Yup. How's that Euro investment going for the big 3 these days...short sighted idiots.
  2. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

The big 3 loved to position it as "people won't buy small cars" but people seemed to buy plenty of small cars from honda and toyota so it seemed like it was really "people won't buy our small cars". Probably because they sucked compared to the competition.
  3. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

Nope. I looked at these while shopping for a car for a kid. For myself it's a non-starter because the bed is too small because it has a back seat I don't want/need. Beyond myself, the XL is not a bad deal, but it's really stripped down. Around here they're basically only available in white, and...
  4. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

I'd say it's politics more than regs--in the absence of intense lobbying (in large part by the US manufacturers who want to keep their domestic market gravy train going) the situation would have been normalized decades ago. The regs in question were written in a time where people still thought...
  5. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

I understand that, but other companies seem to be able to make a profit on smaller vehicles. If it were a truly free market I wouldn't really care what they make, but in this reality they're "too big to fail" so I get to subsidize their mistakes while not getting the selection I want.
  6. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

not like a manual, because that needs a whole new round of emissions work. this is bolting on parts that they already make; there's always a cost in maintaining an option, but it's nothing like a new drivetrain.
  7. No 6th gen S/Cab?

The thing I liked about the 2019 ranger is that they had an option for a higher-trim scab, but they were almost all special orders rather than something you'd ever see at a dealer. Ford gave you the option, but grudgingly. Then, after making sure scabs were mostly unavailable for purchase they...
  8. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

If Ford understood the market, they wouldn't be losing money, right? We won't know how well the slate will sell unless/until it's available. I think there's a market for a small, cheap, utilitarian vehicle that will be all over it. I still see a lot of people trying to keep their 20 year old...
  9. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

I would love to get a slate, I hope they actually happen. That's not something Ford could wrap its head around.
  10. No 6th gen S/Cab?

And this is why if I had to buy a new truck today, it would probably be a Nissan--because they'll actually sell me a truck rather than a minvan with no third row.
  11. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

I love how Ford blames the failure on "it's electric" and not "you can't find one for less than $60k, and probably well over $70k". They made a conscious decision to only make expensive vehicles, they can't reasonably be shocked at selling fewer of them. You want to sell 400k units of a new...
  12. Ford CEO admits 'the customer has spoken' amid company's worst performance slip since 2008 financial crisis: 'It's a big miss'

Maybe they could then add a sliding door? It would be the most functional & practical family vehicle in Ford's lineup! Then they could maybe make a smaller 2 door truck with at least a 6 foot bed that I'd actually consider buying--unlike anything that Ford makes today. :(
  13. Pro-Active Battery Replacement ?

Yeah, in the old days you'd maybe have some hard starting or something to give you a heads up, now it's just one morning click-click-click-click-click. People talk about the ASS being in "charging" state or working erratically as a sign the battery is going bad, but mine did that from the day I...
  14. Pro-Active Battery Replacement ?

That's been my experience with newer cars--there's no gradual decline, it just doesn't work one day. (Which is why I replaced while the battery was still working rather than finding out it just won't work trying to get home from a hike or camping trip or somesuch.) But then you have one more...
  15. Pro-Active Battery Replacement ?

I did my 2019 after about 5 years. It wasn't any more flaky than it was from the factory in terms of ASS, but I didn't really want to wait until it died and left me somewhere in the boonies.
  16. Ford warns that Active Cruise Control can NOT be used with an aftermarket trailer brake controller

That's literally what I said--the brake light signal is there, but not in a form that's usable per ford's guidelines. There are four exposed wires which provide 12V, ground, pedal activation signal, and brake power to the 7 pin (not brake light, which is left & right turn signal lights...
  17. Ford warns that Active Cruise Control can NOT be used with an aftermarket trailer brake controller

I don't understand why you're asserting that--"brake light" isn't one of the four dangley wires under the dash (which is the entire problem). But "brake light" is one of the wires that's present in the 7 pin socket which is how the 7pin brake controllers work. Ford almost certainly could have...
  18. DPFE sensor change (sensor only)

I made the executive decision that Ford chose crimps because they're cheaper, and went with worms.
  19. Ford warns that Active Cruise Control can NOT be used with an aftermarket trailer brake controller

I don't know for sure one way or the other, but brake activation via pedal signal and trailer brake light signal are two different things so there's no fundamental reason they'd be the same.
  20. Ford warns that Active Cruise Control can NOT be used with an aftermarket trailer brake controller

IMO it comes down to whether you'd ever have an AEB event and not also hit the brakes. But nobody in a position to know whether that's true will confirm that. I can't imagine that situation coming up so it's not something I'd worry about. What I'd worry more about is what happens with one of...
