The last software update I was able to perform on my 2020 Ranger was in December of 2022. Since then, when I connect to WiFi, the search for updates button will not work. I have the automatic update feature set as well, but that does not seem to work either. Is this a known issue?

You may be better off to log into the Ford owner site and download the Sync update to a USB this time. It sounds like your last update must have left off something which is why the search function is not working. Also, you have to be connected to a Wifi network, but I assume you knew that. :)

Mine was doing that as well... I noticed in the settings that the modem number was not displaying. I pulled fuse number 9, put it back in and the modem came back... then the updates worked.

Any benefit to updating the non-Nav (big screen) Synch in my little screen Ranger?

^^Yup, this is exactly what I did.^^

I couldn't get any updates over wifi. After I did the Sync update using USB, getting the update over wifi started working again.

You are going to notice a lot of updates using wifi. Keep checking for updates because it'll also update your maps.

It took me several days because I didn't start the engine. I turned on accessory mode, did a few updates, and then shut everything down to charge up my battery with a trickle charger before it gets to low.

so, if you're one of the lucky ones not having an issue with the current sync, is there any reason to "upgrade" to 23188? Does it add anything or work better? Current one is fine, and I'm afraid to upgrade and create problems.

Thanks all.
Going to do the USB update and see how it goes.

BTW, in your experience, how long should an update over WiFi take? In the past I would connect to the WiFi through my phone to perform an update on my drive to work (which is an hour) and it seems to take several attempts.

I second Cynlabs method. Just did 3.4.23188 this past Monday (from 3.4.23088) via Cynlabs. For a NON-nav update I would thing it would be quite quick. With Nav, the download to the USB drive is ~15 GBs, so depending on your internet connection speed, just the download can take a while. Once done, the in the truck portion on mine was ~34 minutes...

A note here: With this update, the Bluetooth connection to my phone was lost; so had to re-pair it... no problems afterwords.

If you're happy with what you have don't update. That 23188 update is a blessing for me since I had several issues that were fixed by it.There's nothing new there...just fixes

The times I've had Sync issues are when it has updated itself over WIFI. I leave that option off, but it has updated itself once despite that. It updated itself once and I lost all connectivity features for a time. A thumb-drive update fixed it. Without Nav, an update with a thumb drive takes about 15 minutes.
