  1. How often do you use 4L?

I end up using mine maybe 2-3 times every winter. My driveway is very steep, so 4L and crawl down works well. Also, we like to travel to the East TN mountains in winter and have used it there for very steep cabin driveways. Even around our family farm 4H is about all I ever need.
  2. Why do you back in when parking?

Easy. First, it is quicker to leave the parking space if you are backed in. Second, the younger generation seems to think parking lots are racetracks and I got tired of beginning to back out of a space only to have them almost broadside me, especially if parked next to a full sized suv that I...
  3. Dealership repaired my transmission

The service write-ups early in this thread look like mine. My dealer was very thorough, and I was fortunate that the valve body replacement fixed mine. I have driven about 2k since the repair and all is good. I have 79k on my truck now. Woohoo! I am actually very pleased with my Ranger...
  4. Another Ranger starting to see Trans issues

This sounds similar to what my truck was doing. I have much higher mileage, but for me the valve body replacement has resolved it. I understand that, for many anyway, the cdf drum issue will even shift into neutral with no warning. I never had anything like that, just the bucking, especially...
  5. High Mileage Ranger Report

We will have to agree to disagree. My '09 Sport Trac, with a 5 speed automatic, has 150k miles and zero transmission issues. None. Does it get less fuel mileage, yes. How CAFE impacts quality is that as they jam more parts in the same space to meet the standards they get made with thinner and...
  6. Sylvania SilverStar

When I used to have halogen headlamps I used to use Vosla bulbs. They are high-end Phillips basically. I found them to truly be brighter, though their lifespan is a bit shorter since the burn hotter.
  7. Transmission or DPFE sensor

Part of the TSB is that they reprogram as well. While I wish Ford would cover this under their own warranty program, I was grateful I had purchased an extended warranty, so cost to me was only $150. But the 10R80 transmission has proven to not be one the better decisions Ford made. Our Explorer...
  8. High Mileage Ranger Report

Maybe you misunderstood my comment. It seems that quite a few of us have had transmission issues, so that is why I said the replacement is now maintenance. It was humor.. I thought anyway. I am hopeful that since my work has been done my only maintenance on the transmission will be fluid...
  9. Transmission or DPFE sensor

My replacement is the new design. The part number is slightly different than the original factory unit. I am very happy with my truck since the replacement. I bought mine with around 40k miles on it, but honestly it has never shifted as smooth as does since the repair.
  10. High Mileage Ranger Report

That doesn't count, it's just maintenance.. :) Transmission issues seem to be afflicting every brand. We can thank the CAFE regs mandating higher and higher fuel mileage for the ridiculous number of gears we have that seem to be leading to problems everywhere. As to this thread, I am approaching...
  11. Transmission or DPFE sensor

This sounds like the issue I was having. This is part of the TSB, but I suspect your control board/valves are bad. That was my issue. My extended warranty covered it, but if you have to pay for it the cost is around $1500. For me this has totally resolved my shifting issues. I have also had the...
  12. 4th gear slip- 88k miles Update: Transmission Replaced

Hopefully you will not the cdf work. The tech that did mine noted the the valves showed significant scoring on them, and it was the valves involved in 2-3-4 upshifts. Mine was apparently easy to diagnose. I am now approaching 79k miles and no issues since the repair. It is surprising how smooth...
  13. Headlights on too long

In auto mode I think the max is around a minute. If the switch is simply on "on" then I think the lights stay on about 10 minutes and then shut off. I use auto mode and have mine set to turn off about 15 seconds.
  14. 4th gear slip- 88k miles Update: Transmission Replaced

Are you noticing during the 3-4-5 upshift this slipping? Do you also see it on the tach? Mine was doing this. My dealer diagnosed it, using the TSB, as the main control board and valves. They replaced it, updated software, and truck shifts great now. I have driven about 1100 miles since the...
  15. Engine Replacement at 50k Miles - rod bearing

My '19 Ranger was having transmission shifting issues, like many have. I had mine in the dealer and they diagnosed it as the main control panel and valves. Part was replaced and I am now approaching 1000 miles since repair and I can say the shifting issue is resolved. Point I am headed to is, my...
  16. The last straw?

Normally I am in auto mode. About the only time I manually shift is when driving on icey or snowy roads. My extremely steep driveway is a great example of when I will use manual shifting in the winter.
  17. The last straw?

The shifting issue is mainly 3-4-5 up-shifts are rough. I lived with it for a while. Last year I had the pcm reflash done, which helped but did not resolve it. I just had it back at my dealer and they diagnosed it, using the TSB, as the main control panel in the transmission that also has the...
  18. CDF Drum Failure

So for fun, I just got my '19 Lariat back from the shop. My symptoms were basically a rough 3-4-5 up-shift and 5-4-3 downshift. Problem was worse when cold, and when warmed up it would do this on occasional, but most times it shifted smooth. The issue had gotten a little more pronounced, so I...
  19. Joined the Ranger Club, New to me 2019

I also have a '19 Lariat 4x4. I am at 77k miles on mine. There are really 2 potential issues to look out for. One is, and my truck is getting this done now, the transmissions on these have potentially 2 fail points, either the main control board or the cdf drum. Mine is the control board, which...
