I'm afraid to do it. My radio works great right now and I have no complaints about operation. I don't want to F that up or lose functionality because I'm sure I can't undo the update.

I'm actually afraid someday my dealer may update the Sync without my permission.

For me to want to do this, I would have to be enticed with some incredible features I really want, and then see a history of zero issues after a lot of people install it.
I can understand your feeling but 3.4 Version 22200 seems very solid to me.

I got the email a few days ago. Does the accessory part of the ignition switch need to be activated for this download to occur? Thanks
If you are updating over the air (OTA) the ignition doesn't need to be on but (I believe) if you are updating using a thumb drive the engine or ignition does need to be on. Personally, I go for a ride while it updates.

the 3.4 update works fine for me I just can't upload the XML file and when logging into ford it says last updated 2 weeks after I bought the truck back in March

I use CyanLabs to update my Sync and for map updates and yet when I access the Ford website used to download the updates and enter my VIN, Ford shows the vehicle is up-to-date. I can only assume that my truck and Ford "talk" to each other. I do have auto updates enabled. So, I don't worry about the XML file.

I got an email about the update too. Will have to check the truck. As far as I know it's always updated automatically for me.

If it hasn't I probably won't bother forcing it. What's the worst that could happen?

Yes I got the email today and think the truck is already set up to auto update. Hopefully Ford keeps updates free, if/when it moves to a subscription service, I am likely outa here.

I wish Ford would fix their web page so that a person could upload the xml file so they knew the updates have been done. I've been trying to send the info to them for nearly a month now. I always get a error message.

You can send the update data back to Ford, by connecting to your home wi-fi and using the check for update in Sync. It takes maybe 5 min, but it will say your up to date, and the Ford site will show the change. I had the same issue, and this corrected it.

I think it’s unlikely that Ford will go to a subscription service for Sync3 updates. It‘s more likely that they will just stop providing updates at all. For example, there hasn’t been an update from Ford for the Sync3 in my 2018 Fusion for over 2 years now.

If you have Nav, then Ford will charge for map updates after you have received 2 or 3 of the free annual updates.

Got the email update notice too. But before I proceed has anyone successfully loaded this update? And if so any issues or glitches to be aware of?

I just did it yesterday Paul and so far everything works fine. It was my first update since I bought my truck so it took a very long time.

WOADKIL said:
FYI: I dinnit wanna leave the ignition on or running, so I was pressing the radio On/Volume button on, which leaves the Sync powered for 20 mins or so and then powers off.

Did this about 3-4 times and the updated completed without the ignition on.
No need accessory...

Thanks Frank both the Sync and maps are up to date. I have it in the garage connected to a great wifi commection and done the check for updates many times over the last month and it always comes back up to date with current time/date stamp after a few minutes. I have also done a reset twice but no joy. I contacted the sync support phone # and they said it is an issue on the back end IT is working on, but I don't understand whey it is some not all. When I log into ford.com it shows the current mileage and tire pressure so it is updating, just not the sync version. A bit frustrating but everything works as it should so not a big deal.

Meanwhile I will just enjoy the "silver Cloud" as the wifey calls it!

Thanks for the input!
