Thanks for the responses. I believe it's best to do it before the cold weather gets here in the Buffalo metro area.

Our 6/2020 Lariat build has the original battery. No problems or weird behavior. We don't drive it that much and keep it on a C-Tek charger/maintainer. I'd rather not replace if it's still good. But also, I'd rather not get stranded. When we're in for The Works, our dealer always says the battery is good. Our Hyundai dealer always said the same thing about our 6-year old Santa Fe battery. Then one day after a day hike in the middle of nowhere without cell service, I was locked out. Used the mechanical key to open the door, then the alarm went off which is quite rude in the middle of the peaceful National Forest where we do our best not to disturb wildlife.

Then along came NOCO. Never leave home without it.

Mine is a 2020 Ranger. I bought it last year with 15k miles. I believe it is the original battery. It starts fine and no problems. I carry a jump pack with me just incase it starts giving me problems. When it does then I will replace it.

My 2020 Ranger Lariet is now 5 years old. I'm not having battery issues, but wondering if it's in my best interest to be pro-active and replace my battery.
Opinions?
Yes. In my experience they're on borrowed time after four years.
I have a 2020 also and had to get a new battery this past spring.
As I recall I didn't lose the radio presets and running the Auto window up and down three times is no big deal.
Auto Zone Duralast Platinum.

What indications did you have with the failing battery ?

I need to do the battery on my 2020 XL. No problems, just common pre-emptive sense. So, what are you guys talking about with "ASS?" Also, any recommendations on a good memory saver tool?

ASS = Auto Start Stop. When active, the BMS eats batteries. Thankfully ASS is on the way out now.

I bought this kit from Amazon. It a bit more expensive, but I wanted the wall wart power supply. You only get about 15 minutes with the 9v battery.

My original battery lasted about 3 years.

As others have mentioned, the first tell-tale sign was that the ASS stopped working.

I never got a warning in the dash, it would just occasionally slow crank before starting.

Replaced under warranty.

The original battery in my 2019 gave out on June 2, 2020 - ASS not working, system shutting down to save battery.

The infamous early “bad battery” was replaced under warranty and the new one is now more than five years old - maybe it’s time. I don’t want a repeat of this…

Since our trucks can measure oil life, wouldn’t it be simple enough to have them measure battery health/life?

I think that there is a crude battery life algo going on, but it is not reporting to the user. It simply changes charging patterns based upon age, environmental conditions, battery internal resistance, etc.

I am not convinced the heuristics being used are for the benefit of battery longevity. There have been compromises made due to government mandates that IMO, trade battery life for green initiatives, however skewed the science has become to support political objectives.

The last defense of poor/politicized scientific analysis is the worn out adage of "Trust the Science".

When you hear that phrase, you know that what they are selling is contrary to your benefit / well being. Whatever it is, do the opposite!

I know you didn't ask me but I wanted to jump on and say I started noticing when it got warm auto start stop was not kicking on as frequently, to the point where I was expecting it and it wouldn't.

I am having great luck with an Odyssey battery. I found them at Napa, Motorcraft is great too.

You’re right, there must be if it shuts off ASS and shuts down system to save battery life. I imagine using the data driving that to show us something on an infotainment screen isn’t that difficult - similar to oil life or tire pressure.

Saves a trip to the auto parts store to test the battery. Maybe on the 7g. ;)

After startup, first thing I do is punch the I-DONT-NEED-ASS button.

What indications did others have that their battery was failing ??

There is an on-screen message that indicates system is shutting down to save battery life - or similar wording.
