This is the worst "Would you rather?" since "Would you rather Oprah or Rosie?"

Personally, I'd take the bullet before any of the options, lol.

Volunteer for a TGD... might as well just buy a Ridgline and get it over with.

So, let’s see how this works:

People get the vaccine. Then they get exposed to the Rona. Viral load of people with the vaccine is the same as the unvaccinated, but the vaccinated do not get sick. So the vaccinated become superspreaders because they don’t get sick from the virus, but can still spread it.

I cannot get the virus from a tailgate damper.

This seems like an easy choice.

edit: Then the efficacy of the vaccine wanes…

This is exactly what many epidemiologists, virologists and immunologists are warning about.

I like the dampers, but they need to be QD with no tools before I will get one. Can't remove the tailgate with damper installed.

Don't need a vaccine for a treatable, preventable disease. Natural immunity is better. I had COVID in December of 2019, along with everyone else in my workplace.

Except that you're not quite correct.

The vaccinated can spread it when initially exposed (if it's been a while and they "catch" it). Not all vaccinated people will have that happen (I've seen numbers between 1% and 10% that seem reliable). The rest of the vaccinated people won't spread it.

IF you're vaccinated, and you're in that group that catches it and is infectious, you're infectious for a much shorter period that if you're unvaccinated. Your body fights off the infection and stops being contagious (because it recognizes the virus) while you have mild or no symptoms.

The real concern is for those that are at most risk of death from Covid to begin with (the elderly, diabetics, those with weak immune systems due to cancer treatments, etc) that have been vaccinated and their immunity is wearing off. Hence the need for a booster. The recommendation for all to have a booster is because if you can avoid that 1%-10% I mentioned above from spreading it, and if some of the unvaccinated get vaccinated, it helps protect those who didn't have good immune responses to the vaccine no matter how many they've gotten (again like those with cancer treatments, organ transplants, immune disorders, HIV, etc).

But hey, if you want to take your chances and see what happens, I guess that's freedom. I feel bad for the doctors and nurses being worked to the bone in areas like Florida and Texas, however, and watching otherwise healthy people die that don't have to.

It's too bad that people have turned this into some kind of a political issue instead of looking at it as a public health issue. We didn't politicize polio in the 50s and now it's not a disease we have to fear (and is a standard vaccine for children growing up). Personally, I blame poor public school science and critical thinking education.

Of course, those in power don't want us to be able to think critically....it's much easier to lead the "sheep" when you can tell them what to believe with your media mouthpieces. And that applies to both parties before you get on your high horse. The right does it just as much as the left (Fox News, Rush/Hannity, Levin, vs. MSNBC, CNN, network news to a certain extent, etc). They all report to their particular suppliers who tell them what to tell the people. Do you think it's happenstance that many of those groups seem to have similar topics/stories on at similar times...?

2 things:

1. Near the top of that page it specifically states that the data has not been peer reviewed. That is very important because sometimes these pre print data reports will not pass the peer review process for a number of reasons, such as insufficient or inadequate controls. Basically, this data should NOT be viewed as fact or used to base clinical decisions, like to vaccinate or not.

2. The article you referenced is explicitly regarding the Delta variant, which we already know the vaccines are not as effective against so there will obviously be a higher viral load of this variant in vaccinated people.

Could we end up with an annual covid vaccine, similar to the flue? Yes, and that would be OK if it saves as many lives each year as the flue vaccine does.

I thought for sure this thread was going to devolve into anti-vax nonsense without any resistance at all. It's nice to see some actual science-based info making its way in here.

What it comes down to in my opinion, is that yes, there will be variants that emerge primarily from the vaccinated population as those people come back into contact with the virus. That's just how it works and how it's always worked (why do you think we have a million different flu shots?). The problem is that people get vaccinated and suddenly act like the pandemic is over, doing away with masking and social distancing, instead of manning-up and continuing to do those things until the numbers are down. The longer you can man-up and wear your face diaper, the better off your family, friends, neighbors, and country will be.

Getting vaccinated should not change anyone's behavior at this point in time. The pandemic is still raging on. Vaccination is just one step towards ending this thing. Masking and social distancing is another. Take every step forward that you can, instead of taking one step forward only to take another step backwards.

Also, politics play no part in this thing. Blows my mind when people try to make it political. And usually in a contradictory fashion. Like Trump supporters being anti-vax because Trump, meanwhile Trump is out there telling the world that he's responsible for getting vaccines and that vaccines are great and everyone should thank him. It's makes no sense, because it really has nothing to do with politics. People are just trying to make it political.
