As an OM (Old Man), I normally let the young bucks have their fun and and stick to my slow, even, steady ways. After reading this thread, I decided to try Sport mode on my 30 freeway mile commute to to work this morning. WOW! I have really enjoyed driving my Ranger over the last 7,000 miles, but the drive this morning was even more fun. I found myself driving a tad more aggressive than normal which in So Cal can easily lead to a ticket. I will try to keep my foot out of the gas petal if I can .

The one thing I need to figure out is how to get the gear indicator screen to show up on the cluster when using auto Sport mode.

Another negative effect of D mode is that in hilly areas (where I live), cruise control can't keep up. The revs would usually be too low around 1200 rpm, consequently loose loose 2-3 mph before reacting by down shift. By that time, cars following at same speed would creep closer and closer until they get fed up and pass:facepalm:

We have a few rolling hills here and I had no issues of my truck cruise keeping speed on the hills.

You'll be surprised how different it is.

I've run in Sport mode a few times but I'm seriously afraid of getting a ticket. It's so much fun I can't trust myself.

I always used the sport mode in my Forester XT...brought the car to life.

I see you have a 73 Capri...that was my very first car.
It was my very first car as well. I still own it to this day. It is now a "pleasure driver". I did a restoration on it about 01 years ago and I mostly drive it to shows and just for fun. It is a VERY different driving experience from my Ranger. I like to call driving it "active driving" - you have to pay attention - you feel the road much more in it.

I used sport mode while driving in the SIerras back in June and felt like I got better MPG, at least in that mountain environment. I think it was due to keeping the RPM a little higher and forcing the turbo to stay mildly active.

I must admit, initially I thought 'S' or sport mode would be too aggressive for everyday driving. I worried it would facilitate wear and tear and lead to an introduction with Mr. Traffic Cop etc etc...

Well, I've found I love it for every day driving, on the highway, and everything in between. With 'normal' driving it just feels right and when my testosterone takes over it just feels great!

.....I'm sure I'll meet Mr. Traffic Cop at some point!!
I swear you guys are going to have me broke between all the stuff I keep buying and now this! Yes,I can see me meting Mr Traffic Cop real soon!:p

Better or worse than you're used to?
In my first 800 miles I done both 16 up to 23.5. Average is 19.9 overall.
