Back in the 80s, before cartridge bottom brackets were the norm for mountain bikes, it was a PITA to service them. To avoid it, we would “Zerk” the bottom bracket. 👍
God what a good idea! I got my first cartridge at 15. So maybe I was too young to think of that. But I like it.

Took the whole damn thing out and it still binds up, that plastic coating is the bad guy I think 🤔, thats definitely the story I told the wifey when the credit card dinged her phone for $740.00...
Im mad and glad at the same time as maybe I'll finally lose that slight vibration from the carrier bearing, it wasn't bad, but ... I'm down at least a week though, and I blame all this on Duke getting me to test out his pex pliers on those damn clamps to see if he could save a nickel...
And damn those flange bolts, they fight to the very end 😳! I think Tom Woods is near Canada so maybe Duke can just swing by on his way down to help me fix this/his mess ...
My truck needs the slip joint lubed badly. And I’ve been delaying simply because if it can go wrong it will when I do something on a vehicle that I’ve never done before. After reading this, procrastination will continue.

Im the only one here that seemed to have an issue with it 😕 as far as reassembly , im also the only one here , or anywhere i think , that had the turn signal socket fiasco . I keep "taking one for the team" for some reason... on a side note 📝, Im very proud 👏 of myself for handling it so well 😊... no new curse words , didn't throw anything (yet) and mostly just said "oh well, stuff happens" ...
Better man than me!

Well, I am now officially chicken to tackle this project. I see problems written all over it.

Did I tell you about the pump and the clear bucket with measurements on it that I bought? Got that, read the transmission fluid pump & replace write up numerous times. And still haven’t attempted it. 🐔

You'll be fine as long as I'm nowhere near it...

I had my local shop do it when they changed my oil back in December. It's always those "easy" jobs that turn into a nightmare and I'm sure I'd have had the same (bad) luck as Robert.

Glad I did mine before I saw Robert's problem. I'd be in the same chicken 🐔 coup with you. Now for the transmission did that also. That was way less stressful. Go for it.🙂

Well the nightmare continues, just installed the Tom Woods and I have a vibration at 45 to 55 that was not there before... I guess I'm going to have to order a Ford one...

Hmmm... have you reached out to TW about it? In my experience he's been both very knowledgeable and helpful....

Is there any chance you had them clocked 180º from how they originally were? As I recall, there are gaps in the teeth at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions... maybe it fits smoothly in one orientation, but demands alimony in the other?

The only thing I can think of trying is to use a small file and gently file down the flat tops of the blue coating at the end of the shaft , to match the contour of the non burred splines
