Took the whole damn thing out and it still binds up, that plastic coating is the bad guy I think 🤔, thats definitely the story I told the wifey when the credit card dinged her phone for $740.00...
Im mad and glad at the same time as maybe I'll finally lose that slight vibration from the carrier bearing, it wasn't bad, but ... I'm down at least a week though, and I blame all this on Duke getting me to test out his pex pliers on those damn clamps to see if he could save a nickel...
And damn those flange bolts, they fight to the very end 😳!

I think Tom Woods is near Canada so maybe Duke can just swing by on his way down to help me fix this/his mess ...
Good luck with that! He's not going anywhere.

If you unbolt the carrier there is enough play to separate the 2 pieces without removing either side fyi.

Robert: Okay…

You Tom Sawyer'd me !!! And not the cool Tom Sawyer from Rush, the crappie one that got others to do his work by trickery!!!
My wife is pretty mad at you though, but im gettin' a new driveshaft !
OR
Did i somehow subconsciously (or perfectly consciously ) sabotage my own driveshaft in order to get a Tom Woods improved one ? Did I arrange this entire scenario?
Either way , I'm getting a new driveshaft and my wife is mad at Duke instead of me !

I hear the Tom Woods driveshaft is easier to maintain - no boot, no clamps. Good thing.

Decided to do this today and it has turned into a freaking nightmare! Slipped apart fine and I cleaned it up some and spread a little grease, not to much , and the damn thing won't go back together. It will go maybe an inch and then thats it , ive tried it every which way and if I force it , I have to hammer it back off. It has some kind of blue coating on it and now the grease feels like its got grit in it from the coating and its jamimg up the splines or something. Just ordered a Tom Woods to fix my mistake, even though I'm not sure what it was ...
What did you use to clean it. When I did mine there was not much to clean so I just lubed it up left the boot on was able to reuse the old clamp.

By dropping it from the center & not the rear maybe the geometry is not correct and it was in a slight bind. 🤔 I dropped mine from the rear.

Did you smoke a bowl before attempting such a arduous task ?

I didnt drop the center at first , just the rear, and then every combination but to no avail...

You can see in the pic that the yoke end has flat spots at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, which might be useful if the spline end had the same...
That blue coating is the issue, I would try and melt it off if I didn't have a new one coming ...

As you may know that blue coating is designed to eliminate any play thereby reducing driveshaft vibration. Too bad you couldn't have chilled the spline part and heated the female part.

Your blue coating is way more than mine had on it.
