Bug Deflector: Yes or No?

I'd never had one either but find it necessary to protect the thin paint as much as possible!

My '05 Ranger has paint chips all round the back edge of the doors, right down to bare metal. I suspect Ford, MoPar and GM know their trucks will sell, so why add unnecessary quality to something like paint? German cars can be needy, IME, but they don't rust like the stuff out of Detroit. Paint it like you don't want it to die in 10 years, Big Three! (Although I know you do.)

I have the AVS Bugflector II which attaches to the bottom of the hood with plastic fasteners. I looked between the hood and the deflector all the way to the bottom with a light and cannot see any paint scratches. It would take a lot pressure to push the deflector against the paint to the point of scratching it. Can you please send some pictures of the scratches so they can be seen?

Looks good on some vehicles, a Ranger isn't one if them so I'd say no.

I looked between the hood and the deflector all the way to the bottom with a light and cannot see any paint scratches. I think the AVS models are the best looking, IMO. What I don't like about the deflectors is that you're either required to stick 3M to the paint on the front or drill into your hood. I think what I'm going to do is get some clear bra put on the front 3-4" of the hood and get the 3M AVS. Or just get the clear bra on the 3-4" of the hood and put nothing on LOL

Um, no. I have a deflector. Did not require tape or drilling. Uses the stock plugs. Install easy with door panel tool. Pop em out, pop em back in. Done.

Well I was taking the trash out and the BIG A$$ can the city gives us kinda spun into the front of my Ranger and put a dent almost dead center in the hood. ?
So I am going to try the AVS II. One good thing about our truck is that the hood is aluminum and wont rust! ?

For anyone who has run into a rubbing issue with the AVS Bugflector II, maybe you just need to adjust the hood latch a bit? It's entirely possible the hood is closing too tightly with the added thickness of the bugflector, and a minor adjustment will allow it to clear again:

I had the dealer as part of the sale, install a ford OEM bug shield. It looks great, no wind issues and is doing it's job.

I installed the AVS Bugflector II - it does not require any drilling etc. 100% reversible if you decide you don't want it. I *definitely* recommend adding one, though - they are relatively inexpensive, pretty easy to install, and the front of the hood will quickly become chipped up from road grit/rocks. When I wash the truck, I frequently find impact sites on the deflector that saved the hood from a rock chip.
