While 170 people is still a pretty small sample size, I find it interesting that it seems to be pretty much an 80/20 split (only 20 percent have problems) - I'm wondering if that is indeed true for a larger sample this is why Ford hasn't done more - its "good enough". We will never know unfortunately.....

I will repeat what I've said earlier - if I ever need transmission work, I won't be going to the dealer - I will be taking it to a local reputable transmission shop to be repaired. It will most likely be cheaper and I will have more confidence it was done correctly.
Not only that but I'm putting in upgraded 3rd party parts to insure it only needs to be done once.

Voted no, but did replace fluid and DPFE. Tranny started acting up again 6 months before my extended warranty expired. I lost faith and gave up at 76,000 miles and traded for a new 2024 Bronco.

I have an Oct built 2020 with 30K on it. I've not had any issues, but a few times, from paranoia, I've thought "was that a weird shift?" Who knows? Everything appears to be working, and the only problems were probably just in my mind after reading this forum. :)

The tranny shop said I won't need a full rebuild, but the trash can and cdf drum, as well as ancilliary parts need replacing. Around 5k for the rebuild. Cheaper than a replace, i guess...
Might want to get a quote on a new valve body too.

I’m at 148,000 on my 2021 and not the first issue till now. Got a weird grind in the driveline, suspect pinion bearings. Going to the dealer Wednesday morning.

Probably the YouTube algorithm but a few videos have been posted the last few months trashing the 2017-2022 10R80. Ford addressed much of the older ones - I think? The CDF seal, valve body and programming were blamed including the adaptive learning.

Repair cost: $4500. Attached is what was replaced. Here is the letter I sent to Ford customer relationship. I don't expect any positive response besides corporate hand-wringing.

To Whom It May Concern

I am writing regarding my 2019 Ford Ranger, vin XXXXXXX. I have been the proud owner of Ford products since the 1970’s. Vehicles I have owned include a Ranchero, Windstar, Aerostar, Mustang and two previous Rangers, making this Ranger my seventh Ford. Never before have I owned a Ford product that had such shabby quality. I have experienced two separate quality issues, of which Ford has had hundreds of examples. Apparently, Ford doesn’t care to own up to them and issue recalls. Small wonder, since Ford just set a record with 152 recalls so far in 2025.

This lack of quality is appalling. My issues were:

Air conditioning actuator door housing warped, causing hot air only on one side as detailed in SSM 50629

10R80 transmission failure, as detailed by TSB 25-2134

I spent $1,800 to fix problem #1 and $4500 to fix problem #2. This is more than I had to spend to repair issues with all 6 previous Fords COMBINED. The only thing more disappointing than the money I spent on repairs, is Ford’s complete indifference to its lousy quality. You can rest assured that if I can’t get a positive response, including some kind of renumeration on these repairs, this will be the last Ford I ever own.
