For oil changes besides for those who diy. Do you take yours to the dealer or another place? My wife does her mustang at the dealer because it's free but this last time, whoever parked the car left it in drive and turned it off and its an automatic. So I'm skeptical of ford service now.
Hi Jimmy,

Okay...since I am a Diy guy, I can not recommend any place specifically, but if in Tucson..Avoid fast oil change places... I have never had a problem with an oil change that I did as I know it is done correctly. I cannot speak for other places. Somewhat depends on your Ranger underbody shields and their removal and reinstall. The Ranger in my opinion is a pain to remove shields to access the filter and also the drain plug... This is life when you put a motor into a vehicle for which the motor was not ever designed. Example was a late 60s 428 Mustang that needed the engine mounts disconnected and the engine raised to access the spark plugs for a plug change...

Anyway...if your are not capable of an oil change on your own, the Dealer is your best bet, JMO.

Best,
Phil

I've always done my own, but I'm going to have the dealer do my first one on this truck, because it has to go in to connect the door keypad anyway.

If they offer a decent price, I may have them do the next 2 as well. I have a 60,000km warranty and 16,000km recommended for oil changes, so only 3 oil changes to cover the full warranty period.

Still should beeped at them like crazy. My wife's Mazda would have.
Mine does too. The first time it happened I had opened the door and the lights were still on so all these beeps and sounds were going off. lol

Don't we have 3 yr bumper to bumper & 5 yr drivetrain? (I'm just used to that).
Once out of warranty I do my own. Not crazy about dealerships but maybe they
know what to look for, as they work on these all the time.
For other non DYI, I find a small reputable garage & if they do a good job, they get my $$$ (I also check reviews online). Gotta love Fumoto valve or other similar quick drain
thingy.
I need to call for my first oil change.

I am a multitrillionaire (ok really 86,000±) in FordPass points, so I do a Quick Lane Works Package on both our vehicles about every 6,000 miles at no charge. Having a Ford Credit card really accumulates the points; helps to buy a new Ford, too!

I made an appointment with my dealer and said I would be waiting for my first oil change. I showed up and they said 3-4 hour wait… but that’s not all… they have to rotate tires, safety check too.. At 2500 miles.. plus 99 bucks plus tax and labor..

Oh no just an oil change was not optional AND a 3-4 hour wait… well that guy over there doesn’t have a problem with it as he points…
Well I’m not that f’ing guy dude!! I will go elsewhere…
Drove to Econolube 2 miles away and half hour later done, yeah it was sketchy but they did right for 2 thirds the price..
Other bs conversation was he didn’t realize how reward points work..

Autonation is bs…

I go to the dealer. Never an issue. If I were to have an issue, I feel like I would prefer to deal with the dealer/Ford than an independent shop or a quick change franchise.

I always changed my oil when I wore a younger mans cloths. But now as I'm more mature (re: old), I find it easier to take it to the dealer, and get the works package done. While it's in the bay I grab a cup of Joe, look at the new cars (when there were new ones on the lot), and shoot the shit with my salesperson. The service calls me, and I leave with no dirt on me anywhere. Plus, if they screw anything up it's their problem.

Someone mentioned the bumper to bumper warranty above... does that cover oil changes?

In my cars I used quick change places, and just verified the oil had been changed. On the truck, if the warranty doesn't cover it then I will use my mechanic. I trust him to do it right.

I change mine myself. I have never had anyone ever change the oil for me in any of my vehicles. I do not trust anyone else to do it right, not cause damage, use the oil I want, actually change the filter, etc. Do not take this the wrong way, but I have no idea why anyone would not want to change their own oil. If is an issue of having the right tools, then a purchase of those needed tools will easily pay for themselves. Barring a disability that would keep someone from being able to crawl under a vehicle, I see no reason not to do it yourself.

I take mine to the dealer as they make sure there are no oil drips from the filter tray. Valvoline is the worst on that and they took 45 minutes trying to get the oil filter off. The dealer also will rotate tires as part of the oil change and don’t come back to me with a list of crap I don’t need to be done. I can change my own air filter and wiper blades.

I feel you, and I used to be a DIY guy for the small stuff. I'm not a mechanic so I stay in my lane. As I've gotten older I just don't feel like dicking with stuff any more, and I'm fortunately enough to be able to pay someone else to do it.

I'm not sure what the warranty options are, but I didn't get extended, and my warranty is 3 year 60,000 km.

Personally, I can think of lots of reasons to not change my own oil. First, you have to take a lesson online to figure out how to access the oil and filter and drain the oil, without getting it all over the vehicle, driveway and yourself. Then you need to go to the store to purchase the oil/filter/tools. Then you need to get in all kinds of positions to perform the change. Then you need to dispose of the old oil and filter.

Or, I can drive into the dealership and have it done.

I get mine done in my driveway. I live in the woods and my neighbors can't see me slumming, lol.

Ever seen a drain plug cross-threaded into an oil pan with a 3/8" impact wrench? It wasn't on my vehicle, it was a fellow employee's car. If something like that had ever happened to me, it wouldn't be good.

I'm probably a bit of a control freak, but I'd rather do it myself and have less drama in my life. The less other people touch my truck and my wife's Escape, the better my blood pressure. :)
