I'm 50 and had my first vehicle just after my 15th birthday, worked on it for months and had it ready to go when I got my learner's permit.

In 35 years, until this Ranger, I had never bought a vehicle which was under 189,000 km (1117,000 miles) when I got it.

And brace yourselves, I have never changed the oil at less than 40,000 km (25,000 miles), and often over 50,000km (31,000 miles).

This Ranger has allot of firsts for me, lol.... 16,000 km the manual says for oil ha ha ha!

Yes Sir, and another 2 million at work.

Edit, probably 1M kms on personal, not likely 1M personal miles.

I'm going to just throw this out there.
I've been doing my own oil changes for over 40 years and actually enjoy doing them and know it is done right.

So I went to do an oil change on my daughters Jeep for her and the last clown left a few things too tight and too loose. Road facing lower engine cover bolts all too loose and on one end the cover was hanging down from a missing bolt. Those bolts are $22.00 each at the dealer.

The oil plug was on so tight I had to use a Breaker bar gently to get it freed up.
The filter was so tight that the lower engine cover had to come off to get leverage to break it free.
On these Jeeps you actually don't need to pull lower cover off because they provide access holes in cover for filter and drain plug. Unless you have a filter so tight as in this case.

Many times the oil change job gets handed off to the C mechanics with not the expertise as the A and B mechanics for obvious reasons. Not to say C mechanics are not proficient or responsible.
But when push comes to shove - things can get missed or not double checked.
Most experienced Mechanics know how to expedite the job and leave time to double check-
But not always.

I have had this happen to me a few times and decided long ago to do the job myself.
I recommend doing it yourself if you know what you're doing, have the right tools and space to do it. Nothing wrong with getting to know you truck as it ages.

As said before: keep good records of what you used, when you did it and the
mileage performed at.
