Yes it is a bunkhouse, we have one 10year old. I think one of the things that helps us weight wise are two things. First I'm never going to be feeling that freshwater tank unless it's at a campground, I'm just too cheap to spend the gas the tow 40 gallons of water lol. We are also kind of looking at this as a tent on wheels, vs a home on wheels, that is more conducive to having two dogs along in foul weather. You would be/will be shocked when you see how quickly that "1500" lbs accumulates.....food, clothes, bedding, cook ware, toiletries, and just "stuff". It all adds up, very fast.
I see it's a Bunkhouse, so kids are with you, right ??? Add in their "stuff", a full fresh water tank, and I'll bet you add at least 1000 lbs !!!
But, even with that, it's still an easy pull for the Ranger.
But, enjoy it, safe travels and many happy memories.....
So basically all the "stuff", beyond trailer specific needs (hook ups, chalks etc.) is the same light weight and compact stuff we used car camping, in a tent, out of a Subaru Outback station wagon. It might actually be a lighter set up (excepting the trailer specific stuff) tbh because we got rid of heavy 20° sleeping bags and replaced them with light sheets and comforters since we have the furnace.
Regardless, your right, even if I went the full 5400 I think the Ranger would have it fine.
Thanks for the good wishes!
