How much oil? If it was a lot of oil, I'd agree with your point. Look at the photo.... it appears to be almost all gasoline with a very small amount of oil.

Gas is a pretty good solvent for cleaning up oil.

Either way, that's a LOT for that many miles...I would worry about that volume....

today I checked the cc again after a week of back and forth to work. Approximately 280 miles, this is what was in the can. Seems like a lot for 6 days of easy driving. I still only 980 miles one the truck but this still seems like a lot for only 280 miles.

I was very surprised to find this much gunk in such a short amount of time. Like I said the engine only has 980 miles on it and one would expect some blow by until the rings have a chance to seat properly. But I feel this is way to much for only 280 relatively easy miles. This may be normal on a fresh turbo motor but I'm a little freaked out about this.

It takes the rings a while to wear in, therefore more blow by... and the resulting higher than expected accumulation in the catch can.

The owners manual states on page 146, in regard to fuel mileage, "The first 1,000 miles of driving is the break in period of the engine. A more accurate measurement is obtained after 2,000 miles."

I wouldn't worry until after 2,000 miles. :like:

I agree it might be normal for excessive blow by while the engine is fresh but that does seem like a lot for that amount of time. I'm going to have to empty the can once a week till the excessive flow subsides.

Maybe not.

What is your benchmark?

What's you're driving characteristics? Pedal to the floor or a cruise control fanatic?

Turbo's are well known for blow by... especially on a fresh motor.

Checked my cc two more times this week, at about 120 miles each time and I had about 2 oz each time. So today I checked my oil to see if all this oil going thru my cc showed up on the stick. When I first got the truck like any good gear head the first thing I checked was the oil, fill level seemed a little high but I didn't give it any thought. This morning I checked it before starting it. It was almost 1/4 inch above the full mark. I'm not sure if to much oil could cause excess oil in cc but it is a possibility. I'm taking it to the dealer on the 30th so they can try to figure out why my dome light refuses to turn off by itself and I think I will have them do my first oil change early and make sure they put the right amount of oil in. Hopefully that will slow down my oil collection.

When was your engine built? There's a tag on the motor that is easy to see.

I had not seen that thread. Although what I am collecting in my cc has a strong odor I don't think it smells like gas. I'm not saying its not possible that its gas but the op in the other thread said it had a strong gas smell, mine does not.
