Ok...so I bought a brand new 2020 ranger that’s a (super cab) not a crew cab ... it has the standard turbo engine with the FX4 4wd packaging and the blacked out package...do I still have the “sport package “?? I can’t find any info on it anywhere lol . It hauls a$$ for the most part but could use a boost lol. I can’t find ANYTHING that says sport mode anywhere lol

Sport mode is not related to Sport Package. It should be on you shifter. You should have a D, for drive mode, and an S, for sport mode on your shifter....use at your own risk, Lol!!!

My truck turned 1,000 miles over the weekend, so I thought I’d start having a little more fun opening it up. I tried Sport mode when I test drove a Ranger, but this was the first time I used it on my mine – and boy was it fun! I don’t know if it’s that much faster, but it sure feels like it. On top of that, it seems to shift smoother and cruise at high speeds more effortlessly.

That said, is there anyone who drives in Sport mode regularly? Is there any downside like putting extra stress on the engine/tranny or killing gas mileage? I may decide to use it regularly if there’s no issues!
Always since day one...

OMG I didn’t realize sport mode was even there,,,, normally all the way down with the shifter meant “manual”

Put it in sport mode, and do not touch the + or - button......drive it like you stole it!!!
Even without a tune, sport mode will snap your neck a bit..... I love it!

If you do happen to hit the +/- buttons just remember you now have to shift it manually or it'll red line. Ask me how I know. :headbang:

It is nice when you're going down a steep grade (even up one) to use S mode and shift it manually because you can control your speed better.

If you put it in sport mode at a dead stop and push the plus sign it will display the gears and shift automatically..but once you upshift again again ie 8th to ninth it goes to manual mode ..
So my question is do you have to be at a dead stop to shift it from Drive to Sport? Or is it recommended? I’ve done it on the fly on the freeway but I’m not sure if that’s good for the engine or not. I have a Subaru that has 2 different sport modes but they’re buttons and you can just push them on/off while driving.

No you can shift it from drive to sport on the fly and vice versa.

I shift on the fly but I also let off the gas when I do so. Not sure if it's necessary but I treat engaging 4WD the same way.

I agree, and also find the +/- buttons on the shifter unnatural, so I just let it shift automatically.
Wish the gear selector button/lever was the shifter. That feels like a shift. I make the sound without it anyway sometimes.?

Last week I worked on a film shoot for Jay Leno's Garage with Tim Allen as the guest star. Can't give details but let's just say I got to drive my 19 Ranger full out in sport mode across the world's largest bentonite dry lakebed. My rear wheels were still spinning and losing traction at 75 MPH. Was a bit squirrely but sure was fun!

Let us know if/when it airs!
