My truck turned 1,000 miles over the weekend, so I thought I’d start having a little more fun opening it up. I tried Sport mode when I test drove a Ranger, but this was the first time I used it on my mine – and boy was it fun! I don’t know if it’s that much faster, but it sure feels like it. On top of that, it seems to shift smoother and cruise at high speeds more effortlessly.

That said, is there anyone who drives in Sport mode regularly? Is there any downside like putting extra stress on the engine/tranny or killing gas mileage? I may decide to use it regularly if there’s no issues!

I drove my 2015 fusion in sport mode for all 52000 miles I owned it and as such, I have driven my ranger in sport mode since the day I got it, now at 4800 miles. All it does is increase throttle values and hold gears longer. Gas mileage won’t even suffer unless you drive it harder. In fact, I have seen better mileage in sport mode overall.

So what happens when you switch to tow/haul mode while still in sport mode
What's the real difference anyway?

Don’t know....21 mpg today..sport mode...I’ve never used tow mode yet...however sport mode stays in 8th gear on the highway on automatic....I then upshift to 10th gear

I use Sport mode in my 2015 Mustang GT more than half the time with no issues at all.

I always use S mode...I've heard it's also called "Select" mode...no matter...it's much more responsive the way I like it:like:

Are you sure? Or did you maybe bump the minus which drops the top two gears?
Of course I don't have a Ranger (not even my old one now) so I don't know.

No it holds 8th gear at 60 mph...you have to physically up shift to get to 10th

So are you guys using sport mode to manually shift or are you just letting sport mode do its thing by driving like you would in standard drive mode? I wish it would leave the gear display up in sport mode. It switches to the tach in the left display and removes the gears from the right. That makes it hard for me to manually shift for some reason.

I agree, and also find the +/- buttons on the shifter unnatural, so I just let it shift automatically.

Once again... Ford offers no real answers.
There are tutorials for every inane operation you can imagine, but nothing substantive on the operation of the transmission and its modes.
Do they just not share the info or is the whole thing just a canard?
I notice that the transmission has no dipstick either... Its not like Ford has a shortage of dipsticks.;)

If you put it in sport mode at a dead stop and push the plus sign it will display the gears and shift automatically..but once you upshift again again ie 8th to ninth it goes to manual mode ..
