Who regularly uses sport mode? I'm getting to where I use it more and more cause the truck is so much more responsive.
I use sports mode 100% of the time. I have nothing to tow atm so cant speak on towing. I get 19-20 mpg on city driving and 22+ when making 30+ mile trips. Bay Area roads.

I normally let my engine warm up a bit before I put it in sport, and I have learned that the gearbox can be a bit weird when going uphill right after starting the truck when it has sat overnight. Once warmed up, I use sport mode more on surface roads than highways and interstates.

In the city, I tend to get around 10-11 MPG.

Ford performance tune fixed so much of this for me; this is exactly how it should have performed out of the factory. I'm pleased with regular drive mode. I'll only use tow mode when towing, and sport mode when I need to hold gears around mountain passes and such.

Much as I love it, I consistently get 2 to 3 mpg less using sport mode (without manual shifting).

Is it my imagination that the fake exhaust/engine "roar" is louder in sport mode?

Same here, I now only use sport mode ? The driving experience is just better IMO! ?
I am sure after a tune...Drive will feel like Sport?

I pretty much use it exclusively. I also have pedal commander set to City 1. It’s a nice combo for regular driving around our hilly windy roads and also highway.

Does D really make that much of a difference on MPG on the highway? I like having the trans hold the RPMs a bit for passing. I’ll have to run a test, but 100 mile drives with a mix and I’m getting 21.2 MPG. Speedometer is identical to GPS.

I really like how it downshifts in Sport Mode. It’s much more responsive when transitioning back onto the skinny pedal.

I have yet to mess with the manual shifting - I’ve never gotten used to how that works. Maybe if I had paddles.

I leave the manual driving experience for my Bronco.

wouldnt surprise me a bit if the piped in sound was more "aggressive" in sport mode

I drive 12 miles of windy country roads before I hit the main highway to get to work, I can run 40 to 55 mph. If I get behind someone going slow I put it in Sport mode because in D the transmission can't figure out what gear to be in if I'm only going 30 to 40 mph.

^ This is my usual scenario with Sport mode. With the Ford tune it does away with the annoying lugging. I also have a habit of manually downshifting two gears with the shifter buttons when I’m in that situation.

I have never experienced "lugging" in a car with an automatic transmission.
Is your torque converter not unlocking when it should?

I'd like the Ford tune but I drive too much to want to spend an extra $1+ a gallon for premium.

so the lugging thing is related to the 10 speed having an above 1:1 gears. It tries to save gas by getting up in the gears as fast as possible. but then when you are going semi slow but in 8-10 gear it kinda bogs until it shifts down the correct gear.
