Engineers moved the front wheels 3 inches forward vs. the ’22 Colorado, a change that should reduce turning radius and generally improve maneuverability.
What?!?! Longer wheel base = increased turning radius if the steering angle is the same on both. I'm not saying they didn't reduce the turning radius, but the longer wheelbase didn't cause it.

With an 1100# payload that 7700# towing number is just about completely useless. Not uncommon though. Lots of heavier optioned trucks and 4x4's have payload ratings that make their tow rating useless.

Not that anyone pays any attention to that.

--Edit--

It appears as if their lighter, entry-level trucks have a 1600# payload. That is a lot better, be interesting to see how stripped down they are though.
My ranger has a 1680 cargo

Xlt 4x2. So i am very lucky. But yeah, 1100 cargo and 7700 tow is just about useless. Tongue weight at 10 percent, hope the driver is driving by himself.

Not bad looking but I'm surprised they have no EV plans for it. Even Ford knows ICE vehicles are on the way out and are developing an EV Ranger right now. Then again I think GM will be bankrupt again before the end of the decade.

My 2 cents:
Exterior better than 5G and 6G Ranger
Interior better than 5G Ranger but not better than 6G Ranger
Engine is impressive, but I am sure MPG rating will be a few MPGs lower than Ranger.
I will give it a test drive when it comes out, but Chevy quality scares me.

Interesting features:
  • 7,700-pound towing capacity
  • 1,164-pound payload
  • ten camera views, including underbody and rear cameras
They are charging after the ranger a fixed towing capacity and basically one good engine setup.

Just like a good Chevy always behind you.

That's a factor that made the Ranger an easier choice for me. I liked that I wouldn't feel like a loser if I got the lowest trim because the engine's the same as are the capacities.

Since mine's an XL 4x2, my payload is 1,882 pounds (which is good because I do like to eat and I miss the Golden Corral that was only a few blocks away when we lived in Garland, Texas!). =D

Now I have to admit that the underbody cameras sound wicked cool (unless they film me as I flop and huff under the Ranger doing mods ...). I'd want to charge a monthly subscription to share those videos! =D

Yawn. No center dash vents? The NWO is already dictating GM design policy?

Look below the two round knobs- Aren't those vent tabs? I can't decrease contrast enough to tell.

no radio knobs,, the vents under the display are horizontal.

Not really my interior but it at least doesn't look dated anymore.

Why arent they using the 10R80? It was a joint development between GM & Ford, it would only make sense for them to throw it in the new colorado
That is not entirely true, with a little credibility stirred in.
From what I hear the gist of it is that Ford owns the 10spd and GM must license it from them.
the rear drive 8Spd is GM's.
There are many persistent automotive myths which are based on half truths

Before I bought my Ranger I test drove the ZR2. It was nice but the interior was very outdated and then there were the trans issues. I can see why they're only going with one cab/engine choice with all the parts constraints. The new one from the pictures looks good and I'd like to check one out when they hit the lots just so see in person what they've done. Hopefully Ford ups their game too and puts out something much better.
That's the 10,000 dollar question brother. Ford, and Farley seems to more interested in suckling on the Governement teat with their ventures in electric vehicles. I was looking the other day, and you still can't get options you want on many Ford vehicles. And of course there's no indication that even after you pay for those missing options that Ford will ever make it right. It's becoming quite difficult to maintain my Ford "Fanboy" status these days.

For the most part I think its a decent looking truck. Like others have said the previous gen interior really sucked which is a big reason I didnt get a ZR2 several years back.

The other big ticket item is the rake of the front end which seems to an issue on all new mid/full sized trucks. The previous gen colorado was the worst as fenders made it worse by having an increase lip reducing forward / side visibility even more. For me this was one of the big selling points of the 5G as the front is very raked and I feel like I can actually see whats in front of me. This appears to going away with the 6g and a reason why I will not likely upgrade.

With that in mind I really dig the 360 degree camera and am very interested in what this under camera setup presents. Curious if its like what I have seen on the newerish range rovers. Very cool if so and wish someone much smarter than myself would figure out a way to retro fit onto our 5Gs.

Also that tailgate cubby box is a nice feature.

I think where Chevy screwed up is by not making the front/rear locking difs an option on the trail boss. Leave the ZR2 to the baja / mall parking hot boi's and give the trail goers a tuck that can not only haul 1700lbs but also get out of a pickle with the locking diffs.

I am hoping Ford realizes there is a difference between the baja and camping/fishing/overlanding crowd. Im looking for a "forest" ranger model.

In the past, Z71 trim on Chevy trucks included the Eaton auto rear locker, but I’m not sure if that will still be the case. Obviously not as good as a selectable locker, but probably good enough for those that don’t off-road much. The way theyā€˜ve arranged the line up, most off-roaders will skip over the Z71, I’m guessing.

I'll just cut and past what I posted on the 6G site:

Looks way better, inside and out, than the outgoing model. It's a tad Tacoma-ish looking IMO, but not enough to deter me. I was very surprised that they are not using the 10spd though. I wouldn't want to buy in the first year, simply because of the 8spd.
I like the stake pockets. That's an important feature for me. And plenty of tie-downs. I couldn't find any mention of a power rear window and zooming in on the interior pics, I couldn't see a button for one. One of the interior pics had an extra 4 buttons on the drivers door, beside the lock/unlock buttons, so I think they may have a memory seat/mirrors option.
If GM releases the Canyon AT4x with the multi tailgate option, then it'd be hard for Ford to win me over....unless they add stake pockets and a memory option....and power rear window to the N/A model. I know those are minor items to determine a purchase on, but both the new Ford and GM trucks look really good inside and out, that it will be the minor items that make the difference.
