The 8 speeds did earn their claim to fame in 2017 and 2018. The 2019 I had received the new transmission fluid as part of delivery and it was always smooth. The 3.6 V6 engine in front of it though didn't make much torque down low where it needed it. I'll get rocks thrown at me, but I would say the 8 speed shifted smoother than our 10 speeds do.
I can’t argue with that, in general, product problems, even bigger ones like the early 8 spds, the DFM lifter fiasco (more a Melling COVID production issue than a GM design problem), take on a life of their own. My “sketch” was more for comic relief than anything strong feelings about GM.

I am pretty sure the real world MPG is go8ng to be pretty disappointing, but everyone seems to be sure we are just around the corner to buy one gallon, get one free, days so let’s go! ;)

With an 1100# payload that 7700# towing number is just about completely useless. Not uncommon though. Lots of heavier optioned trucks and 4x4's have payload ratings that make their tow rating useless.

Not that anyone pays any attention to that.

--Edit--

It appears as if their lighter, entry-level trucks have a 1600# payload. That is a lot better, be interesting to see how stripped down they are though.

And a single grab handle on the passenger side. I thought the Ranger was that way because it started out as a right-hand drive truck. Maybe not.
I think all the midsize trucks have lost their driver side grab handle due to a bigger airbag.

I know the 2016 Frontier had one and the basically identical 2017 lost it.

The ROW Ranger has one on both sides due to not having to meet US crash standards.

I actually like them better there than up on the face by the screen. They blend in (obviously most of us missed them. lol) and I think you could angle them better on your body. Here that's important with the sun beating on you.
That was done to keep the radio cooled in summer and heated in winter so it would still work! Sorry man, it may look nice but underneath is a world of hurt and we all know it. Only thing Chevy made that was any good was the Camaro’s and Corvette’s. Pretty much everything else is a rolling turd.

They’ll be crying when our little 4 bangers with a 10 speed smoke the hell out of them.

I just like how they are more horizontal and blend in with the dash instead fo sticking out on the main flat part. I think here it "might" help cool you off more angling them on you mid - lower body better. Now if we had cooling seats that'd be a whole different story. lol

I must admit, thats a good looking truck. Heads and shoulders above the current model. With this and the 6g Ranger coming, that noise you hear is the Frontier being pushed off a cliff.

I'm an old school 2 speed powerglide fan.
I had a 64 chevy with the 2 speed auto box and the 283 V8 (smooth quiet engine) If you floored it I think you could hit 60 mph or so before the tranny shifted to 2nd.

Looks like towing capacity is up to 7700 lbs for non-zr2 models. 6g ranger will have to match it or beat it. Maybe 8k lbs towing for ranger?

Yep, we ran them with big turbo motors. Fewer shifts meant less chances for the tires to break loose mid quarter mile.

Rube Goldberg himself could not have designed a more complex valvetrain.
The Stupid design combined with GM quality could spell disaster.
As usual they are trying to play catch-up to Ford.
It does look nice and technically hits every marketing target.
In a world without mechanics it will soon make a beautiful lawn ornament.

200 lb difference is no big deal. I doubt if anyone here could tell the difference between towing 7500 and 7700 lbs.
Just simple marketing to try and go one up on the Ranger.
