I used my Ngauge to check the actual fuel level that the ecu reeds. When the dummy gauge read 0 miles to E It still showed 6% fuel in the tank. So you do have some reserve built in. I also carry a 5 gallon can in the back so dont judge my curiosity as risky. hah

I thought it was an unwritten rule that all new vehicles are delivered with a full tank.
Every other new vehicle I've ever bought had a full tank of gas... except this one. Whatever... it is what it is. I wanted to fill it up with 91 octane top tier fuel anyway.

It also had 48 psi of air in the tires.....

its not chump change for Ford to fuel your vehicle for you
just the ranger alone, at over 89000 units this year, at todays gas prices is over $4 million dollars.

Go figure why they chose profits, they are a business
It’d be out of the dealer’s pockets, they’re the ones that fill it up.

Any dealer I’ve worked for or dealt with always sold used vehicles with 1/2 tank of fuel and new with a full tank.

theyre still a business looking to make the bottom line.

I know people have been accustomed to the freebie...but i bet a dealer who fills them full has already reflected that "freebie" in the price you paid
Most definitely. The truck I purchased it was right in the quote, $60ish for fuel. I mentioned that other vehicles I purchased came with a full tank at no charge and it was removed.

Hi RP,

Not for me...Full Tank and I paid much more than dealer invoice for my Ranger. Horne Ford in Nogales is a Class Act. Not so with my local dealer here in Green Valley, Az Definitely not a class act... They will remain unnamed, but there is a fellow on this site in California that will take issue with this. Oh well...I do not Click with this dealer...

Mine got down to 6 miles left. I put 18.3 gallons in it (continuously clicked the pump handle until it almost overflowed).

I am near 60 and have been through quite a few auto purchases in my life. I have never taken delivery of a new or used vehicle and the tank wasn't on full. That is until I picked up this Ranger. Worst. Dealer. Ever. I actually sputtered into the nearest station a couple blocks away from the stealership when I picked the truck up and noticed it was on E.

wow...did you get a survey to fill out.... That is a sad dealer...even used cars gets a full tank here...

many may do it and absorb the cost (ie bill you through the back door) thats their choice, but it is not a condition of a sale like a full pan of oil is. profits are profits.
as long as theres enough gas to drive it off the lot, thats the business decision they made.
it may only hurt them if the dealer down the road offers it as a perk and you're shallow enough to use that at the only reason to go there. Yay I gots me an extra $15 of gas, I won!!!!!

The real pudding is what the PDI checklist says....you can bet Ford Corporate doesn't have that box to be checked as "full"
It isn't $15 in gas, at least not around here - more like $50. And for me, it is an "appearance" thing. Every vehicle I've purchased, minus one - came with a full tank - and the one that didn't left a sour note in my mind. We barely had enough gas to make it to the gas station. I don't believe we ever went back to that dealer. When you spend a lot of $$$ on a new vehicle, I don't think it is asking to much to be able to drive it home with a full tank. Again, it is absolutely a dealer call, but it gets to the heart of how the dealer treats its customers I think. And I wouldn't use a dealer that didn't feel it was important. With all of the options in today's world on how/where to purchase a new vehicle, it seems awfully short sighted of a dealer to scrimp on things like this.

I seem to recall a line item (maybe on one of my XPlan quotes?) that had a "fuel charge" or something like that. I don't have those any longer, but it may be factored into prices in some cases.

its also fair to say you just spent $40g's and are complaining about $50 bucks in gas. who's scrimping there?? Both sides of the fence are cheap ass
IMO it's more that it seems like the dealer is cutting corners. If they took the truck on a test drive they'd need to put gas in it, right? So, basically, they just never got around to it and figured they could get away with it. It's like the PDI failures related to tire pressure and washer fluid--it's not a big deal for the buyer to fix the pressure and top off the washer fluid, but it makes you wonder what else the dealer doesn't do right. Or maybe, as in my case, they found the time to wash the car and put shitty tire shine on the tires but still didn't fill the washer fluid or fix the tire pressure--so they either care more about looks than substance or are just incompetent.

Or, they're arrogant enough to just not care about how people perceive them.

My Ranger was full.
Only vehicle that wasn't was my Focus RS. i was there just after it came off the truck after its long voyage from Salarius Germany. When I picked it up after dealer prep my salesman said he hadn't had a chance to fill it up but would gladly send someone out to do it. I really didn't want some else to drive it. He told me that he would reimburse me if I would rather do it myself. I chose that option. I have purchased many vehicles from him and will probably buy my next one from him even though I dislike their service department. Did a tank of gas really make a big difference to either one of us on a $43K car? No, but I still think it is good customer service and I appreciate it.

It's the little things that a dealer does that makes you appreciate them and keeps you coming back. After reading about how some on here received theirs I had a long list with me when I went to pick mine up. Lucky everything was done, the truck was spotless and it was filled up. It gave me the confidence in that the dealer cares about their customer and so I did not hesitate to go back and get the oil changed from them,I receive 2 years of free oil changes.

This is the first new truck I've purchased since moving out here and was very nervous as I had a great dealer back east who I've done business with for many years. I've bought a lot of my F 150's site unseen as he knew how well I kept my truck and everything was done over the phone. I'm not expecting that now as it's rare but I now have confidence in a dealer here because they went above and beyond with my purchase. Even if they were a little bit more in price for the next one I would still buy from them, for me customer service is everything!

Mine was showing about 3 miles remaining before driving off the lot. The dealer said they could take it and fill up, or they could give me a voucher for the station a block away. I asked for the voucher and filled up myself. It topped off at about 17.5 gallons.
