its also fair to say you just spent $40g's and are complaining about $50 bucks in gas. who's scrimping there?? Both sides of the fence are cheap ass'

I'm pretty sure I got lambasted in a different thread in a similar way.

Its not fair to say that at all....we don't even ask for it..its a condition of the sale THEY supply it and yes its accounted for somewhere.... Based on your logic don't say anything about anything....Heck lets just offer the poor dealer more money while we are at it.

The dealer I purchased from said they have a dealer admin fee...I said that is fine..I have a travel fee when I buy a car.(it was crickets on his end for a minute too.) At the end of the day we can only hope we get as good a deal as we can and we are reasonably happy with it....They have most of the power but that does not mean we should roll over just because....Besides, we hold the ammo...moola.

Knowledge is power. That is one of the benefits of forums like this...we can learn stuff. :fistbump:

PS, I didn't spend 40g's, My msrp was 41,525 and I spent 34k all included ...(and a full tank of gas that I drove almost 350 miles)

Just in town driving, I've gone down to 2 miles. Avg I'd go to 10 miles. But if road trip, then fill up before leaving town.

Someone should throw a gas can in the back and see how many miles past 0 you can get to full sputtering empty.

Hi Zaph,

I wrote a thread response to this question by describing the Ford Test procedure for this scenario... Being one eyed now I do not have the ability to easily do the search, but maybe someone else can do this...Hopefully this changes on Wednesday when the other eye is "fixed"... Hard for me to just type limited responses...

I actually thought about doing that, but really don't want any drama during the winter here. It's f#@&ing cold here. Maybe in the spring when I won't die outside.

Do you know if the fuel pump is located in the gas tank, that could make a big difference between sputtering to a stop and a overheated fuel pump.

The reason the manufactures leave fuel in the thank when the computer says "0" miles is for the exact reason noted on several posts - for the life of the fuel pump, it will self destruct when there is no fuel to pump. Before you experiment give your dealer a call and ask him how much a new fuel pump costs - installed.

For those of you that like to wait until you reach a 1/4 tank or less before filling think about this. Whenever there is an emergency of any kind what do you notice on TV: empty shelves at the grocery store because people don't have a few days worth of emergency food, like MREs, tucked away, lines at Home Depot getting the plywood which should have been bought after the last storm, and long lines at the gas station. It doesn't cost a dime more to keep the top half of your tank full than it does the bottom half. If you ever need to get out of Dodge you'll be glad you topped off. It's just a habit for me, but when I get below 3/4 of a tank and happen to be near a station I'll top off. When traveling I'll get it go, but day to day, I'll keep it topped off. It's also a good practice in the winter. Having to spend the night in your truck because you got stuck and being low on fuel is not something I'd wish on anyone (Right now in NW WY we have over 2' on the ground, 8" forecast for tonight and all the roads are 100% snowpacked - and the highway department doesn't plow the canyons after 9:00PM). Just saying...

Hi SL,

I believe there is a lift pump in the tank as I hear it every time I open the door, but have never checked for sure.

Here is the post I did on describing the testing done on a new vehicle at Ford. https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/how-accurate-is-gas-guage.3093/page-2#post-41375

The fuel going thru the pump cools it. You might be able to get fuel pumped on level ground but ford has to call it empty on a hill because you might be.

How far have you gone? I don’t do that normally When I filled up I want to say it was something like 18.8 gallons.

DO NOT follow my example, but I have run mine about 20 to 30 miles past "0". However, I drive fairly spirited, so when the light comes on I drive more reserved. I think it may calculate the mileage based on recent driving habits, so when I chill out I get a little bit of grace, ha ha.

I really don't sit here and worry about all this stuff. Also, do you really have the free time to fill up your vehicle when the gas gets below 3/4 tank? I guess if I was retired and had nothing to do then sure, maybe. But I would be filling up every other day if I did that here in the winter. Ain't nobody got time for that. I almost always get my gas at Costco, which is nowhere near anywhere else I go, so its always a trip out of the way for me.

When we picked up our brand spanking shiny new 2019 Ranger SuperCab at the dealership the "Miles To E " display showed "0 " miles of fuel remaining, and the out of fuel chime was ringing.

We drove about 3 blocks and filled up the tank with 91 Octane Top Tier gasoline.

It took 18.524 gallons before it shut off the pump. Fuel capacity per page 319 of the owners manual is 18.8 gallons.

18.8 - 18.524 = 0.276 gallons remaining.
Wow, I asked the salesman at dealership if I would get a full tank when picking up the Ranger and he said of course as though this was the only way. I have heard bad reviews on a Jeep dealership that did not deliver vehicles to customers with full tanks. you might ask why yours was empty, show them your receipt with the date and ask for some sort of refund are credit towards your next service. It is bad enough they have2 bed tie does missing on many Rangers.

When I bought my Ranger, the tank was nearly empty. They did fill it for me. In California, that is at least $60. I filled it for the first time yesterday, and the display showed "333 miles until empty", with a fresh tank. With an 18+ gallon tank, and the minimum city 21mpg, that should be reading closer to 390 miles.

The miles to empty is just an estimation. Right after a fill-up I assume it's based on how you drove with the last tank, and not a hard line of what will happen with this new tank. I don't usually take any credence in that for the first 100 miles or so until it's burned a few gallons and has a good data set of how the current tank is performing.

I am not heavy or light on the gas pedal. The last tank was showing and average mpg of 16.6. I was really looking forward to the 21-26 mpg promised, but didn't think I would have to drive like an old lady going to church on Sunday to get it.
