So when you guys go with a aftermarket tune, you still don’t rev it to the limit? What’s the point of buying the tune then?
Do you mean just run it 100% all the time? I have a tune for more power when I need or want it but 98% of the time it doesn't see high rpm. Maybe 95%... I do have to merge on i10 almost daily. When it is being run it shifts when it shifts. As much as I bash on my trans it did well before the tune at hauling ass. Got even better after the tune. When it shifts and how it shifts both.

Semi off topic? Maybe... I am now picturing OPs Ranger bouncing off the Rev limiter at each red-light. The opposite of A.S.S. ... being an ass.

My 1993 Pathfinder has a Redline of 6,000 RPMs and it handles it just fine as long as I'm not bouncing off of it. Main thing to understand is if you hit it when needed you should be fine. Most of the time you won't even be on it thanks to cruising with a turbocharger and a 10 speed transmission

I can't even pretend to understand what you have to go through. I deal with i45 and that's bad enough

Even with a tune, with the stock components, there's little to be gained by revving the nuts off this motor. If we had a 4 speed gearbox, maybe, but with 10 speeds, there's no need to be up there because that's where the motor is running out of steam, tuned or not.

There's absolutely no reason to. Peak hp/tq are achieved before redline.

When I had my 15 Ecoboost Mustang I spent a lot of time trying to get the best 0 to 60 time I could out of the car. Mine was a 6 spd manual and had the Performance Package which included 3.55 gears in the rear end. This combo would not reach 60 mph in second gear before hitting the 6800 rpm rev limiter requiring you to shift to third to reach 60. The Mustangs with the 3.08 or 3.31 gears could reach 60 in second gear and were a two or three tenths faster than the cars with 3.55 gears. I raised the rev limiter to 7200 rpm to see how fast my car would be if I could reach 60 in second gear. Really didn't make any difference whether I shifted into 3rd at the 5500 rpm power peak or ran it out to 7200 in second gear. In the end my best of 5.2 seconds was a perfect run with a shift to third at 5500 rpm.

When they put the 10 speed into the Ecoboost Mustang guys started getting down into the high fours 0 to 60.

4600 towing downhill. Otherwise it’s way less. I’ve not hit 5000 yet. I’m sure I could, but that noise is irritating over time. I guess for a short burst it would be okay, but the tranny gets warm enough at 4500 on grades.

I have noticed that once you get past 5,000 there isn't much benefit. I rarely go past 4,000. Of course I've done the whole "mash the throttle and see what happens" thing and it shifts right at 6,000 everytime. In gears 1-3 this can happen very quickly. The truck is quick, I'll give it that but it's no race car, for sure. I can see perhaps a younger fellow getting one of these and thinking he's Speed Racer and turning his engine into a milk shake fairly quickly.

I have a very fast mustang. It hits 6000 rpm frequently. My truck rarely sees anything over 3500 rpm.

Pickup trucks are so slow relative to actual fast cars, even with a tune, so I just focus on doing truck things and leave the speed to the purpose built sports car. I like to play the mpg game Ford so thoughtfully installed on the center console menu.
I am of similar frame of mind. I like that the 5g ranger is not a slouch and can be fun to drive but as far as speed and rpm etc. it just does not have it after owning muscle cars in the past. I like my ranger a lot... but about once a week I get that need for speed v8 hunger and just have to shake it off lol.

Get rid of the oil and fill crankcase with 303 Graphite...the 303 is so slick you should be able to get another 2000 rpm out of the engine...maybe 8000 rpm !!!!

Seriously. One thing I learned after owning this mustang is that I had never actually driven a fast car before. A first gear launch in a 3200lb car with a boosted V8 is a wild event!

Ok, so even in sport mode it hits 5 to 6, normal 4 to 5, and when i do pedal to the metal in sport mode, 6 to 7? No tune all stock. But, it is a truck for me, so slow on curves and turns, unless doing donuts, so...i only go fast on straight roads. And briefly. And i do not tow over 70. No matter what the tow. I hit 3 to 5 grand on really muddy roads.
