In the meantime (while you're waiting to"go fast" you could be putting a damper on the truck for that extra 15hp +torque...The Dave (@AzScorpion ) knows the secret to the Dark Side...

FYI for those waiting - I just called Livernois this morning to check on my order. As others have stated in this thread, the Black Friday sales were very good for business and they quickly ran out of tuners. They expect a new batch on the 17th and will start fulfilling backorders then. Unlikely some of us will get them before Christmas. But oh well, at least we have a timeframe now.

That falls in line with what they told me several weeks ago. Tuners finished building on 12/11 then it takes several days to program/quality check and then go to shipping. I was hoping they would be going out today....oh well. If they ship on the 17th I'll be happy just to get the email.

Update I just talked to Livernois they are receiving the tuners today and shipping them out today and tomorrow. Maybe we’ll get lucky and get them before Christmas.

Stopped by their shop to grab a tuner from a shipment they received in last night. They said they’ve been very short handed and very busy. I would assume they have been shipping like mad today.

Oh and I flashed my truck in the parking lot. The low octane tune is impressive!!

You’ve read their customer service is great and that is no joke. Great guys and dropped everything to help me get it installed.

I'm just about to order from them myself. I currently have tunes on 19 Mustang GT and my old 18 Explorer Sport from Palm Beach Dyno. After reading on here and talking with some Ford techs, I'm excited to try Livernois on the Ranger. I sent them an email this morning with a few questions and I was blown away at how quick Dave Ameduri replied to me (just over an hour!) , Especially with how busy they are this time of year. Much respect. Can't wait to try their tuning on all my cars now. This could get expensive. Lol.

Wait to you try the 91-93 performance tune. I've been running that Ione since August and love it!

Quick question for an old fart before I make a snap decision to get a tune.
Is the tune really necessary? Does it really improve that much performance.
I am not looking to debate the issue but want real information.
1. I am not going to drag race, what are the true benefits of doing a tune?
2. Not looking to go to a 6” lift and 37” tires, I will run 33’s (32.7”) so that is 100lbs per wheel with what I have coming.
Will the tune help with that aspect to get in theory better performance?
3. I run German 93 Octane so I would use the 91/93 tune... has your mpg suffered greatly? or did it increase?
4. I understand that the soft shift is spot on, can anyone confirm?
5. If I am not planning to add exhaust or increase boost is a tune really beneficial?

thanks in advance for any thoughts and information

I heard from Vince via email saying I should have my tuner in my hands next week.

As for the 100 pound 32.7” tire. Did you mean a net gain from all four tires? If not, no tune is gonna help rolling around 400lb in tires. Well it will help but you will be very very very slow with no mpg. That is a crazy heavy tire

That’s a 285/65 18 tire and rim at 86lbs total...
Pretty standard when you get to 32-33” sizes
Stock 18” wheels with 265/60 18 is 67lbs
So 20lbs more per axle... doubtful that mileage will suffer more than 1-2 mpg based on only forums feedback....

Oh gotcha. Adding in the wheel weight with 18s, make sense I was thinking just the tire at first lol

Preface: I'm still waiting on my tuner to arrive, so take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt. These answers are just based on my research and reading through all 45 pages of this thread. Not based on personal experience with the tune - yet.

1. A tune on any vehicle isn't necessarily just for raw power. Yes - one of the main goals is to increase power with the available hardware. But tunes can also provide better engine management, updated shift patterns, alter transmission behavior, add (or remove) certain ECU features, change fuel tables, etc. Overall the goal is to squeeze more performance out of the factory equipment. Often times OEM's have to abide by efficiencies of scale, government regulations, EPA ratings, keeping part costs to a minimum, and tune their vehicles for the 95% of users who will never use their vehicle to the fullest. A tune doesn't have to worry about most of those things and can add quite a bit of performance that was "left on the factory table".

2. The Livernois tuner (called the "MyTouch Calibrator) is a physical unit that you plug into your OBDII port. While the tune itself has nothing to do with your tire size - the calibrator unit does have the ability to "set" your tire size so that the ECU can adjust speedometer and other parameters to make your gauges more accurate. Of course the extra HP will also help you overcome the extra rotational energy needed to drive larger tires so you don't feel like you lost power when upsizing wheels.

3. While Livernois does not advertise any fuel economy numbers... almost every person I've heard running this tune will get better MPG than the factory tune. Your mileage may vary depending on your driving habits and the weight of your right foot.

4. From what I read here, the performance shifts are very stiff and sequential (1,2,3,4,5,6, etc). Whereas the "soft shifts" are more akin to the factory shift patterns that emphasize smoothness over quickness. And will sometimes skip gears intentionally for a smoother ride.

5. See #1. Also know that most tunes on the market will increase your boost above stock. (I believe stock is somewhere in the 20psi range, while the Livernois tune is reported to be around 24psi).
