I made 'till 51 and had enough of the cold, rain and dreary weather along with the high taxes. We did have a lot of fun there growing up and snowmobiling up in NH. ME and Canada was really fun and some of the nicest scenery you'll ever see deep in the trails.New England was a great place to live up into my 60's . Honestly, when my wife retires this year, she will be putting on a search for renting or buying a home in a warmer, more tax friendly state.
Where we are now is very tax friendly. No school tax (so your property tax bill is less) and the sales tax is lower than most of the state at just over 5%. We (mostly me because Annies always cold) couldn't stand the heat in Phoenix any longer so this was a nice happy medium. At 3.000' the summers aren't that bad and it cools off at night and so far winter has been perfect with cool nights and warm days.
