  1. New Taco TRD vs Chebby Colorado ZR2 - Car & Driver

I maybe watch 15-20% of their videos. Their towing tests are actually pretty interesting. They gave a pretty good idea as to what the tow vehicle can do pulling at close to max rating up and down a steep grade. What would be very interesting would be if they were to add a slalom course in too to...
  2. Our Trucks Have Issues. Looking At Others, Maybe Not So Bad

Interesting! Let's see some cost figures.
  3. New Tacoma - Broke

    I could not agree more.
  4. New Tacoma - Broke

Your right that Toyota could deny the warranty claim. But, if they site towing before 500 miles as the reason, what would towing a trailer on the paved roads have to do with a failure in the front wheel drive area of the 4wd system? But for conversation's sake, lets say that Toyota rejects the...
  5. New Tacoma - Broke

There is probably more to this story. If Toyota made a habit out of trying to get out of high dollar warranty claims, we would have heard a lot about it. Also, Toyota dealers would have a hell of a time trying to sell Toyota ESP's.
  6. New Tacoma - Broke

Have you seen Toyota do something like this before? Most of the cars that I own tend to be either Ford's or Toyota's. I can't say that I have had a lot of warranty claims with either brand, but I have never been in a situation where they denied a claim. For instance, my wife owned a Rav4 and a...
  7. New Tacoma - Broke

I would be very surprised if Toyota fights them on this warranty claim. I see two differences here compared to most other component failures during off-roading. First, he has an actual video of failure occurring while doing some pretty easy off-roading. Second, we have to consider who these guys...
  8. Camper Towing

This from a post I made back in 2020 about a towing experience I personally had with my first travel trailer. In this particular situation, my tire pressure was way over. ... My first travel trailer was a 22’ Prowler lite weight trailer that I pulled with a 1996 v8 Explorer. The Explorer...
  9. The EPA Is Targeting Aftermarket Car Modifications

Oh, sure they have the right to fight, but at what expense. Even if a case like this does go to trial, it is not an easy case for a jury to comprehend. When you get a bunch of Ph.D's as expert witnesses, things go over the heads of most people very quickly. So, paying the fine may be the easier...
  10. Our Trucks Have Issues. Looking At Others, Maybe Not So Bad

I wonder how Hyundai can stay profitable with those types of warranty repairs.
  11. Driver's Seat Etenders for Long Legs

I'm 6'4" and I have a XLT with the manual adjustment. There is just enough room for me. I would not mind another inch of seat travel. I am not a huge fan of GM vehicles, but the new Colorado has way better front seat legroom than the Ranger.
  12. Camper Towing

My FX4 came with those same Hankook tires. Ford recommended 30 psi. I now have the Tremor tires and wheels on my tuck, but when I had the Hankooks on my truck, they rode well at @ 30 psi. IMO, 40 psi would be overinflated. A test similar to the chalk test would tell if the tread is riding flat...
  13. Camper Towing

Google "Tire chalk test" and it will show you a cheap and easy way to tell if your tires are over, under or properly inflated. With your current level of tire inflation, the chalk test would also give you a visual of how much tread is contacting the pavement.
  14. Camper Towing

I have not noticed this with my Ranger and I do not recall others complaining about this. What tires do you have on your truck? Is there a lift or leveling kit? Last, what tire pressure are you running. I could see an issue like this if your tires are overinflated. Overinflation would lead to...
  15. Tonneau and MPG

I have had Access soft tonneau covers on both my Ranger and my previously owned Tacoma. I didn't notice any difference on mpg. As I recall, there was a Myth Busters episode on this topic. They found no mpg improvement either. I think the air swirls in the bed and creates an air dam that is...
  16. Open letter to Ford - warranty

Out of curiosity, what did the CarFax look like for your Ranger? Did it show a number of trips to the service department? Also, ask your deal can if they can get the service history for your truck.
  17. Any Kayaker's here?

Sorry, old pic. That was my 2011 Tacoma. I could not find a picture of the kayak in the Rangers bed.
  18. Any Kayaker's here?

The Hobie manual states that they want it stored upside down. I agree that it may not be needed. I would not mind getting a PWC trailer though. Then I could just back it in the water at the launch ramp. I can't do that with my Harbor Freight trailer.
  19. Any Kayaker's here?

The Harbor Freight trailer is the prefect kayak trailer. I have my bunks running side-to-side due to Hobie saying that the kayak must be stored upside down so the hull bottom does not get deformed.
  20. Any Kayaker's here?

When just taking one kayak, I use a bed extender I purchased on Amazon. You can't tell from the picture, but the kayak is sitting on (2) carpeted 2x4 boards. The boards are secured with eye-hooks and a nylon strap. When taking both kayaks, I use a Harbor Freight trailer. The kayaks are...
