I have another tune file to try with those first few shifts back in line with the others (we had tweaked them to try to fix the common laggy cold shift issue with 10R80s), so we will see how that goes with the adaptive turned off. I won't get around to loading it until late this weekend or Monday.
That screenshot you posted of the software they have looks like if you had that tool you could get the shifts to where you liked them and then pause adaptive at that point. That would be ideal. Though, if I'm being honest the tune you and Torrie out together has been FANTASTIC compared to everything else I've tried. ?

I'm going to try the newest file on Monday and basically that is taking out the things that we did for those first few gears to try to mitigate the common issues with this transmission and those lower gears, especially when cold. Now it will be set up where they all are set to shift exactly like each other.

Been watching this thread to get some good info. I'm on the fence about getting a tune, so I reached out to Torrie last night after 9:00 and he got back to me in 20 minutes! On a Sunday. Wasn't expecting that, sometime on Monday or Tuesday would've been fine. All I want is the truck to have a little more power, shift nicer, and to have a choice between an 87 and 93 tune. I guess I can get that stuff from what I'm reading. Maybe for what little I want isn't worth spending the money on because I sure as h*ll don't race this thing and I don't do any towing. But wow, him getting back to me that fast was impressive.

That change (changing the 2-3, 3-4, and 4-5 shift timing to be the same as the other gears) is much better with adaptive turned off, but the 3-4 and the 4-5 shifts are still jerky at times. I honestly think it is the nature of this transmission and the adaptive learning is used to smooth things out. Kind of a crappy way to design a transmission IMHO. I'll drive it a few more days and report back if anything changes (I haven't had a chance to really heat the transmission up well yet). Everything else is perfect. Even the weird cold first shifts are gone. Might not be a daily driver, but a good experiment to be sure. Would definitely be amazing for someone who races or changes tunes often, etc.

I would stick with the original tuning I worked on with Torrie if I were anyone on here. It is best for most people. I am going to keep experimenting for you though.

Appreciate the work you guys are doing on this! My son is a GM tech and GM Transmission specialist and he laughs when he drives my truck at the way it shifts from 1-2.

FWIW, I had Unleashed Tuning do a custom tranny time over a year ago and now have well over 15k miles on it. The quality of the shifting is so good that I don't even think about it anymore, just get in the truck and go. If I turn on the gear indicator it will skip 2nd and 5th sometimes but without the gear indicator on you would never notice. What my goal with Unleashed was to get the tuning to keep the rpm between 1500 and 2000 when cruising which the tune does beautifully. Around town up to 45 mph the tranny never shifts beyond 7th which is perfect.

Curious as what that did to your MPG, if anything?

Mileage is better. Even on an E50 tune I get the same mileage as the stock tune. I am even on 32" tires.

The tuning I worked on with Torrie, besides engine performance and throttle response (sport throttle in all modes), has transmission tuning that can best be described as having Tow shift points (upshifts and downshifts) with Sport mode quickness and firmness, without the excessive engine breaking of either. This is normal mode. In Tow, there are changes in firmness and quickness, and Sport is a little more than normal Sport as well. People really like it.

No change in mileage, 22ish around town before and after.

FWIW, I have been driving turbo 4s continuously since 1985 as my daily drivers. Everyone of them has been tuned and my mileage has been the same or better on all of them. With the Ranger I have Unleashed's 87 octane tune with the transmission tune. I am not looking for more power out of the Ranger, just better shifting characteristics. With 93 being $1.00+ more than 87 I was not going run a tune that required me to use 93 octane.

I don't hear complaining about engine performance, just shifting points - this 10 speed auto is fairly common now so I sense there is tweaking we can take advantage of. I'm starting to think of a 'performance' valve body replacement then see what Torrie's mods can do.

Hmm. I need to call him. I have not driven as much due to being on the motorcycle. So it’s been several months since the tune. 1st tank 93 octane on the 93 performance tune = 14.8 mpg. 2nd tank 93 octane changed to 87 tune = 14.5 mpg., 3rd tank now is 87 octane and 87 tune but I won’t have mpg figures until next week when driving for vacation. That mpg will be all hwy. love the way it drives and shifts though. Have not been driving it hard at all.

Anyone ever had any problems with their instal? I finally got around to unlocking my device (It was Docs so it needed to be unlocked from his truck) and ordering this tune this morning and have had nothing but problems with it. First the device didn't take update/pair and I had to call SCT so she could refresh it on her end. The I was able to see the tune under programing. I was like great this should be easy now...Nope!

I've flashed tunes many times with my Livernois tune and know to have everything off, my phone was even shut off and hit the 93 performance tune. After going through the blocks I got an error # and it said download failed. Wtf! So I pushed the start button and then tried to start my truck, it's totally dead...nothing! Now I'm freaking out and emailed Torrie who honestly never gets back which I'm surprised because everyone here raves about how fast they are but their email support is some of the worst I've seen.

Now mind you It's 1:00 pm and I've been doing this since 6:00am so my patience are wearing thin and now my trucks dead. I then called SCT again but am now on hold so I decided to go back out and try to see if I can return it to stock. I flooded their email instructions and when I hit program it went straight to downloading the blocks again, no screen to select the tune or stock. I just waited while it did its thing and then once down this time it said "turn off ignition" so I did and it said Successful. I crossed my fingers, hit the button and it started up. :whew: Now I'm still on hold with SCT so I took it for a drive and all seems fine then she comes back on and I tell her what happened and she says "no, that's not normal" but the tech guys are swamped with calls right now so if they don't get back tome todayI should call first thing at 9:00am tomorrow when they open and run it by them.

Before all this I emailed Torrie to let him know what happened and here it is 3 hours later and no response. Sorry but right now I don't trust this tune or this company and I'm to afraid to touch it until I talk to SCT tech support. While it seems to be driving ok I'm leaving on a 5,000 mile trip on Friday and now have to worry about this! I might just return it to stock tomorrow and be done with it. This is what I was afraid of happening 3 years ago when I found out they have no phone support and I was nervous about just dealing with someone back and forth over emails. That's why then I went with Livernois and I never had these issues with them. Plus when you call them they help you on the spot!

This is the first error I got. The tuner was paired to my device as it showed my Vin and all my info. SCT just had to do a refresh and the second one took and she could see it on her end.

I have been using the same SCT hand held device since 2012 and started getting tunes from Unleashed in 2013. Never had an issue. Can't say the same with the FP branded Livernois device. I had programing issues three times which required me to go through a recovery procedure each time before I successfully installing the FP tune.

The thing I find the most amazing with Torrie at Unleashed is how fast he responds. I have emailed him on a Sunday night and got a response within an hour or so. I have no explanation for him not getting back to you.

If you've never gotten a response from Torrie, where'd you get your tune.

For me the process went.

Open SCT device, power it up. Get the serial number so that Torrie can upload tunes to it.

Email Torrie my truck info, including ECM strategy, and told him what I wanted. Then he uploaded my tunes to the device. Then I could install tunes to the truck.

Sounds to me like you're trying to install Doc's tune. From '19 to '23 and considering g the ECM strategies I'd bet that's the problem.

Why would you be upset at Torrie? Did you ever purchase tunes from him on his website? Far as I can see the only thing he's guilty of right now is not responding quickly to an email address he doesn't recognize as a customer.
