It is like a regular wrench except the closed end has a year mechanism to make it operate like a ratchet and socket. You can get either fixed or hinged versions.

Here's a vid from 2020 US spec...

Yesterday, I crawled under and checked out the location of this dipstick...my GOD! I can barely get to it with skinny hands...while the truck was cold, I had a hell of a time wrenching the cap off...with a 19mm open wrench, I contacted the end of the wrench with a 2 foot long extension just so I can pound it with a 3 lb sledge hammer and it finally came loose...HollySh!t...how did you guys get it off...
Can the plug be reached with an impact wrench?

Mine wasn't too bad, but it was a challenge to get hands on wrench. Used open end wrench that was about 12 inches long. Traditional open end that was half that length was a no go for leverage.

Take it to your dealer and have them do it.....I had mine changed, including the filter at approx. 50K. I've been extra hard on my tranny so I wanted to make sure and keep the fluid in decent shape.....she still purrs like a kitty at 83K with the Livernois hard-shift high performance tune installed for approx. 53K......

maybe if you get a lot enough extension and go through the engine bay.
That's the problem...the dipstick cap is in small gap between a hard place and Hell...zero room for maneuvering...you can get a socket or an open wrench on it but no room for leverage...that why I used an extension that allowed the end to reach an open space farther back where I can wack it with a sledge hammer...it was on TIGHT!

Best advice ever....
I don't trust the local dealer's service dept...Chevy dealer I worked with I trust...the Ford guys act like they could give a sh#t and can't explain/don't seem knowledgeable...they told me that a filter/fluid change could only be done before 100K...their boss says no to anything over...what?

Dang, where in NC are you at? You can see my location. I use the Ford dealer in Gastonia. Nothing to brag about but have been good over all. Bought my current and previous 2006 Ranger from them. Image is from the Belmont, NC Ford Dealer cleanup/detail department. They clean up outside customer's cars by appointment.

I really meant no disrespect with my post.....I expected ya'll to hammer me for that after the fact. I think Dave will back me up on this.....once you load up the hottest tune for your Ranger no matter who the programmer is....there's no looking back....lol. I've tried to drop down to the 87 tune and it's just not near as fun to drive as the 93....I don't need a dyno run to tell me that. I would however love to see what mine would do on the dyno. I had planned to do that many miles ago but it never happened.....not sure I want to mess with it at 83K.....

I have no feelings one way or the other on you post. Tunes are a personal choice. Just wondering why it is in a thread about changing transmission fluid.
