Fuel in oil

I changed my oil today as I wanted to get a sample to send off for testing and wanted to measure how much oil drained out. Engine cold, the oil was at 3/8" above max fill hole. I got just a little less than 6 and 3/4 quarts out of engine. I figure I lost a few ounces from the oil filter that was absorbed in the filter media and whatever the Blackstone lab container holds. I expected more oil to come out than that, but after draining for 30 minutes that is what I got. It has 1950 miles on it and when new, the factory oil was at max fill hole for baseline.

I put 6.25 quarts back in. After running it for about 5 minutes I parked it for the day. After sitting for a few hours, the oil level is half way between the max fill and the cross hatched area.

Going to send the Blackstone sample off to see what the lab shows for curiosity at this point.

I didn't worry about it till it got past that top hole, for awhile it hung around that area then it moved up to the twist. I ran for about 3 or 4 thousand right near that top hole.

Mine had stabilized at 3/8" above max fill for the last 500 miles, so part of the early change was to get the oil sample and the other part was to establish a baseline of where 6.25 quarts should be on the dipstick with a fresh oild change.

I am going to get ahead of this issue by adding oil to my fuel.

This is not totally correct. Oil breaks down from pressure and heat, which promotes oxidation, and would still need to be changed, even if there was zero fuel contamination. Many of us with this problem have long commutes to work, so the short drive theory does not apply in all cases.

Most aircraft turbine engines that run on full synthetic oil have no oil change requirements. Oil consumption and filter changes are enough to keep the oil fresh enough to make it to engine overhaul. I am not saying that short drive/long drive changes the issue just on long drives you have a better chance of evaporating off more fuel.

Well, back from the service visit. While the dealer agrees the oil level is high based on the owners manual, they had to preauthorize any work under warranty. Pre-approval request to Ford was met with a revised way to check the engine oil. Run engine and shutoff. Immediately check oil level before oil drains back down completely to get accurate reading. I requested revised documentation from Ford on that, but know that I won't get any. Not my first rodeo with Ford.

Anyway, going to change the oil and send off my Blackstone sample to see just what percentage of fuel is in the oil. I rarely keep a vehicle longer than the warranty period, so I'm not gonna sweat it.

For those who are sending their oil to Blackstone, what are your fuel percentages?

My first Blackstone kit was used on my 2nd oil change at 6176, which had 4387 miles on the oil, the fuel percentage was 3.8

Blackstone stated; Fuel at 3.8% is fairly significant.

I'm not really worried, I have seen engines run with high fuel dilution, it can be hard on the babbit of the bearings (soft layer) and it does break down the protective additives in the oil.

Blackstone also stated that the 2.0 TBN shows some active left, but not a lot.

As a note, at Honda Racing we tested almost every kind of high performance oil made, some had power increases, some not, but the real difference was how quickly they broke down, Mobil 1 was by far the best, it did NOT make more power, but it lasted far longer than all the others, meaning the additives were still effective.

I wish I had the complete list, I recall; Mobil 1, Red Line, Royal Purple (one of the absolute worst) Gibbs, Alisyn (really made power, we ran it for years, but wore stuff out so badly) Castrol, Quaker, even tried Shell Rotella and Delo 400, I even think we got some of the old formula Kendall (did well) there were more but my memory is crap.

It varies, in boost sometimes and just cruising others.

Changed the oil today. Didn't smell any gas in the old oil. Planned on sending a sample to Blackstone anyway but found I didn't have any more sample jars.

Just sent off my first blackstone sample for analysis pending results. Ordinarily on all my other N/A vehicles I wouldn't be concerned. With this being my 1st turbo ecoboost purchase and after reading all these "gas in oil" threads and observing higher cold readings on dipstick lately at 6000 miles. Truck purchased out of necessity to be my daily driver and expected it to be reliable well beyond 125,000 miles. Getting a little concerned about our Rangers tho. Maybe opt for the high mile, high dollar warranty

I wouldn't worry too much. Just change the oil every 5000 miles instead of waiting for the OLM to go off around 10,000 miles.
