So to add to this, I just checked my oil for the first time at 3700 miles (bad truck owner!) and it was about 1/8" over full and to quote San Diego's favorite news anchor " I'm gonna be honest with you, that smells like pure gasoline."
So my truck goes in Tuesday to get its diff leak fixed. I'll have them look at it while it is there. Maybe they can do an oil change and reserve me a sample to send in.
I wouldn't sweat it. First oil change has all the contamination from breaking the motor in. If the fresh oil gets the smell bad after a few thousand miles I'd get a analysis done. I had the smell bad in the break in oil. At just over 18K I had an analysis done with 4,500 miles on the oil an it was 1.5%. A little fuel smell is common in direct injection engines.

I didn't read all 136 pages, but my 2021 has almost 900 miles on it. I do drive super short distances, since I live 3 miles from work now and the only other place I go, is to Lowe's and it's about 4 miles away from me.

Alabama doesn't get super cold in the Winter, maybe mid 20's, but that's not often. It's usually the wind chill that's rough, over the actual temperature here... :(

Anyway, after I got home this afternoon, I went inside to change clothes and email some people, waited about 30-45 minutes and decided to check my oil. Engine was still warm, but not hot. It ran about 25-30 mins, from leaving work to getting home, mostly because the temp dropped after the massive storm we had today and I was freezing, so I warmed up about 15 minutes, before leaving work. It normally takes me about 5-10 minutes to get to get work in the morning and also home in the afternoon.

Anyway, I pulled the dipstick and I think it was a tad bit over the twist on the stick, but remember, it was cooling off. I wiped it off and checked again and I think it was a hair under the twist? This time, I wiped the oil off between my thumb and index finger. It felt more oily than how gasoline "feels" on your fingers. It didn't evaporate at all, like gasoline does. I sniffed it and it smelled more like oil than gasoline, but there was a hint of a gasoline smell, but not overwhelming or anything.

My wife said it smelled like 100% gasoline, but I said no, it's smells like burnt oil.

I'm debating if I want/need to install a catch can in a few hundred miles? I was thinking about the Mountune Dual Can.

I'm aware of the breaking in of the engine and the smell of fuel will be in the crankcase, but I don't think mine's as bad as some of yalls?

I was trying to find out if the HPFP's in the early 2019 Rangers were the problem, since that's what it sounded like within the first 15-20ish pages of this thread?

I'm going to check my level in a little while.

take it out,get it to normal operating temperature then rev that eco boost up to close to 6000 rpm in s mode,do that every now and then,I’ve been doing pretty much every time I drive mine which is on the weekends, plus it’s a lot of fun driving in s mode,my level went down a little after I started doing that per the suggestions of a lot of guys on here

I assume you're replying to my post? If so, that's super comforting to know! This is the first OEM turbo vehicle I've ever owned, so I wasn't sure about all this fuel in the oil stuff, since my local dealer is full of morons too! I plan on doing all my mods myself, since I'm super mechanically inclined, but now, this is my only vehicle and I definitely don't want something bad to happen to it. So, I'm just making sure :)

We tried Sport mode within the first 100 miles after taking ownership. I left it in 3rd or 4th and scooted up a twisty road on an awesome nearby mountain! It was super fun! I definitely wanna do more driving on the weekends, once I get it to where I want it!

I definitely wasn't thinking about getting rid of mine though, LOL!

I've said it a few times, I'll say it again, take it for what you think it is worth

If you are buying into this hype one bit, going by the stick levels that some other guy described as correct or incorrect, catch cans, the "smell," etc.

Get a Blackstone report and put your mind at ease before you add to the hype or waste money on a mod you don't need

This "problem" has been blown way out of proportion

I was just chiming in, since I've never read this much craziness, about 2-3 quarts of fuel in the oil before and I've been messing with engines since the early 90's, haha! Once I decide when I wanna change my oil/break-in period, I was planning on sending in a sample to Blackstone :)

With 130+ pages about this subject, I can totally agree with you about it being blown out of proportion, LOL!

Here is a question I've had for awhile now, running your engine harder up to 5 and 6000 rpms or more, is that not going to shorten the life of the engine just as fast or faster than a little fuel in the oil would?

Yes, I know some here are having more than "just a little" fuel in the oil.

I've been following this thread when it had 16 pages. I caught up and have been following ever since.

Well, I always have run to red line all my vehicles. Some vehicles once a day
some once a week. My motorcycle still runs & it's 40 yrs old. I had a Suzuki Esteem
which ran for 18 yrs. Nothing wrong with making your engine breathe.
What would be bad is to let it get to 5/6k & leave it there.
Just follow normal maintenance schedule for oil change or earlier
if you want. Some people are unlucky, 136 pages here, my truck is fine, no gas
smell, no extra oil making. Why is mine fine & someone else's has an extra quart?????

The ones that drive around slow, short trips, seems to be the ones with the gas in oil,it doesnt hurt to blow the soot out every now and then.
and,no, I don’t constantly rev it to 6000 ,it’s in warranty,have fun!

Thanks for all the responses. I was just doing some suggesting.

That is why if I know I would be cranking the truck again shortly I would just keep it running. Which then would make me paranoid about carbon buildup. I got rid of my 2019 over a year ago. I bought a 2011 ranger with the 4.0 so I can now be paranoid about all the timing chains.

If they ever put dual injection on the 2.3 or offer the 2.7 (since it's already dual) I would reconsider.

PS: fuel in oil was NOT one of the reasons I traded in the truck.
