Well, I’m OCD so I did an oil change. Not including the oil in the filter, almost 7 quarts came out. Zoom in on the picture, you can see the measurement lines.

As noted by others, it looks like you pulled less than 6.5 qts. To my eye looks like a hair over 6 qts. I'd say you're in good shape and can now go on your trip with good peace of mind knowing that your engine isn't going to fail at any moment from an overfilled crankcase, nor is your engine mysteriously creating copious amounts of fluid.

Now that you've changed it, how much oil did you put in it and how does the level look? If it still looks super high, I'm guessing you must be somehow picking up residue from the sides of the dipstick tube as you're pulling it out. If you continue to have issues with it, just drop by the dealership sometime and ask them what the trick is to avoiding it. Sure you may feel a little stupid asking how to check a dipstick, but it sure beats never being confident in your reading!
just change it.
should really change the oil between 500 - 1000km/mi for first change anyways.
I'm not sure what part of this statement amuses me more:
-The fact that it's so matter-of-fact while being unsubstantiated and flying in the face of Ford recommendations, or
-The fact that the numbers for that proper range for the first oil change is the same regardless of whether your units are miles or kilometers.

You'all should not check your oil because that oil level was right on. It might even be better if you'all didnt open your hoods.

Better yet, my BMW doesn’t even have a dipstick. Ignorance is bliss!

Glad i could amuse you! Not every little issues is deserving of a trip to the dealership. Change oil, monitor, and drive the vehicle. Its brand new, put some miles (or Km's) on before jumping to any conclusions. Who cares about difference in miles to km LOL. its not science, its a truck.

Checked my oil level today on Ranger, only 500 miles. Seems like it’s too much. What do you guys think?

Run 5w40 synthetic. Consider a catch can.

Honestly now that my truck is well and fully broken in (15K miles) and the weather is warmer, I am getting very little from the catch can. The main thing that helps with this is running an oil that is a little heavier and engineered to fight fuel dilution and LSPI. I run Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40. Any good synthetic engineered to fight dilution and LSPI will work (I would suggest heavier though).

I did switch to Pennzoil Platinum when I did this oil change and Wix XP filter. It is nice knowing there’s fully synthetic oil in there now. For warranty reasons, I’m only going to run 5w-30.

I waited until I had 3K on mine to go to full synthetic to give the rings time to seat. That might not matter since many cars leave the factory with full synthetic in them. I've run PP too but read it breaks down in viscosity a little fast. I now do 5K change intervals so it shouldn't be a problem (probably isn't anyway).

Yup that was after pulling the stick, wiping it, checking it, and repeating the process 3 times. The engine was cold, I let it idle for maybe 1 minute, shut it off then checked it. It idled maybe 1 minute max from cold before I checked it.
These engines are different than any other vehicle I've owned when it comes to checking oil. The truck either needs to literally sit overnight (or at least several hours) to get a good reading off the dipstick, or if you pull the dipstick the oil settles faster and you can get a good reading after about 15 minutes of being off. Don't idle it right before checking, or you will never get a reading, the whole dipstick will just be covered in oil.

Yeah from everything I've read, I plan on doing oil changes every 5K on this vehicle. Interesting on PP. What oil do you recommend?

I added one qt of PP to the 5 qt jug of moble 1

all the full synthetic oils are good, especially for 5K changes. It's just brand preferences individuals have. I got the qt of PP because it was $2 cheaper on an individual qt.

I was going say check at proper running temperature. Oil expands when it’s hot. When I change my oil , I’ll fill it 3/4 on the dipstick or just shy of, take it for a good run so it gets nice and hot then recheck it. Usually it just needs a little too up afterwards. Thankfully I haven’t had any issues like this. 25,000km on it now.
Think of it this way, your car or truck isn’t cold when you take it to a quick lube. Hope you get it figured out.?

6qts and a cup brings mine to the full mark after run and settling.
I didn't post any pictures.
I was referring to the pictures at the beginning of the thread where the OP was showing oil clear up to the "twist", but thanks.

I was replying to Floyd because he listed the actual amount that he should have had. The OP had posted a stick with a lot more oil on it than should have been there. Try to keep up. ?
