My first few oil changes were done by the dealer so today I did my own at 14986 miles.

A few notes:

6.2 qts Mobil 1 5W30 and Motorcraft FL-910S oil filter.

Go Now and get the oil filter wrench. As some have mentioned, the filters are apparently installed by a roided up gorilla with a SnapOn impact gun. Supposed to be a 76mm with 14 flutes. I will confirm this after I get one.

The drain plug was very tight too (15mm)

I installed my ValvoMax so the next change should be much easier.

With the ValvoMax, I won't have to loosen/drop the skidplate (all skidplate bolts are 15mm).

The filter was surprisingly easy to get to, maybe because my truck is leveled?

I didn't have to turn the wheels for access.

Remove 3 of the plastic retainers and move the flap to access.

When I bought my ValvoMax there was a lot of debate over the correct thread of the drain plug. The correct size is M12-1.75

Overall not bad at all.

Much better than the cartridge system on my wife's Toyota that is virtually guaranteed to make a mess regardless of how careful you are.

I did my 2nd change yesterday. installed the ValvoMax after the 1st. (Hint: be certain to remove hose before filling. Yup I dint and poured 5 qts fresh 0-30 thru the motor onto the driveway. Worked great!. Then removed hose and filled again. Der.) Has anyone been able to successfully add your own oil change?

I've tried to add this multiple times and I always get "Oops! Something went wrong adding your entry. Please refresh and try again later."

Turns out you need to do it in the Ford Pass app.

I chatted with Ford and they sent me to the app which worked fine.

When I asked about why the browser based version doesn't work I got the runaround.

I'm fine with using the app.

It makes it easy to attach receipts to the service record.

I too took on an oil change plus tire rotation. The first oil change was a freebee and was done at 4400 miles at the dealership. Now my turn at 10,054 miles.

I am impressed with the engineered undercarriage, very substantial and clean. Access to the oil filter is very poor. More could have been done to eliminate the micky mouse plastic molly screws. Since the oil filter is mounted horizontally, the oil lost during it's unscrewing conveniently drips into a catch troth below it exiting in the rear of the lower arm assembly.

Tire rotation is labor. Two floor jacks and four jack stands gets you started.

I do appreciate how they made the skid plate underneath the oil pan a 15mm too, so just need one socket to do the whole thing.

Also replaced the plastic screw with some pop out ones since mine have started stripping.

Yep, I replaced the stupid plastic screws with JB welded in Rivet Nuts and thumb screws, the one time I had the oil changed on the road the tech remarked how much better they were

I found some strong magnets on Amazon and used them. Flap peels right off, easy peezy.

Oil and filter is on my To Do list for the holiday tomorrow now that it's turned 20k miles.

First test of the Valvomax and I plan on picking up some thumbscrews for the flap.

Almost exactly 5k miles from April 7, 2022 to January 16, 2023 so ~500 miles a month.

Man, I'm obviously keeping the roads hot ?

Have they stayed on off road? At 100 MPH? That's not a bad idea, I use some of those around the RV. But I didn't want to take the chance so went the thumbscrew route, whatever floats your boat is good.

I put them on last June. Changed the oil last week and the first one was missing, so that's 10,000 miles (I change the oil every 5k). I do not off road it but PA weather is pretty wet and snow. They come in a 6 pack and I used 3, so I still have 2 left. When the weather gets warmer I'll try Gorilla Gluing them to the flap.

Great article with clear illustrations! I once owned a Mazda RX4 and the oil filter receptacle was mounted over the engine which was a piece of cake to change. Simple to unscrew and replace. The drain plug was convenient to get to even though the car had to be jacked up a bit. On some of my vehicles could drive the front tires up on 2X4's and get it up high enough. But you had to be careful if you had a front wheel drive because the boards could tend to spin out from underneath the tires. The good ole days!
