I hadn't had much experience with NAPA until recently however my parent's motorhome takes two commercial size AGM batteries. When we replacing the old NAPA with new NAPA batteries the date code on the old ones was 2010! 10 years is a ridiculously long time
I agree. I have used West Marine Gel batteries (4) in my boat and get an average 15 to 17 years use out of them. I have lived aboard for 26 years so they get a lot of constant use and live on a 115V charger and or solar panel. When I worked as a Marine Mechanic I found that my experience showed that AGM's were the least reliable and are very voltage sensitive. For that reason I have steered away from them and have continued to use Gel batteries in my boat.

Walmart doesn’t test your batteries when you bring it in prior to replacement period ending to get a new one.
I've bought several WalMart Everstart Maxx batteries that are made by Exide. I've never had a problem. Their warranty is a full replacement, not pro rated. Myself I just want a good battery, not bragging rights on a high priced name brand.

When you change the battery on these Rangers , do you have to re-teach the system? My Subaru we had to re-teach the system when we did the battery on it. Kind of a pain in the butt.

My understanding is on Fords all we have to do is leave the truck locked for 8 hours and the battery management system (BMS) will reset its self.

Just curious, there is a battery setting in Forscan. If we change to the larger group 94 (H7) battery does/should this be changed? My XLT is currently set to "AGM 70ah 600CCA H6 Case". What are other people's set at especially Lariats. If this isn't set properly will it affect BMS operation?

Some time ago I thought I was a battery genius. I was not, and the people in the know about batteries are those folks living off the grid. Google it. AGM batteries are measured to 50% DOD (depth of discharge). The most popular AGM battery, Optima, is good for 400 cycles to 50% DOD. There is a marine battery - Concordia - that is good for 1000 cycles to 50%. It's expensive, but cheaper given the number of cycles. Deep cycle batteries are fine for our application IF the CCA meet vehicle requirements.

Another point. For long life a battery should be kept at full charge always, even if you only back out of the garage. Allowing the battery to discharge significantly once-in-awhile is not good for it either. That's a wife's tale. A battery will "gas" when charged at 1.5 amps or greater, shorting the life. I use a Battery Tender with a quick disconnect plug on everything I own - all the time. Doing that, I kept a Porsche 911 battery alive for 16 years (until the car was stolen). Additionally, with an AGM battery, very slow parasitic losses from radio presets and clock when the vehicle is not used for long periods will result in the battery not being able to be recharged fully. Also, AGM batteries have a higher internal resistance than full float batteries and if given a "strong" recharge with connected charger MAY result in bubbles in the gel. If these bubbles encompass the cell the battery is toast.

Just a few data points to consider for battery replacement. AGM deep cycle batteries have some significant advantages and when my Ranger's battery needs replacement, it's the battery type I will purchase.

You at bare minimum have to re-teach the driver's side "auto window" function. Everything else should be automatic.

I figured this out while I was wiring in my ditch lighting.

For anyone wondering about replacing the battery or adding accessories, read page 255-258 of your owner's manual and it will tell you all you need to know. Lots of subtle details in there. Just looked it up and answered all my questions. I ain't taking it to the dealer. Motorcraft battery from the parts dept installed in my driveway when it comes time will be my choice lost likely

If I recall - most of the batteries are made in like 5 or 6 different factories around the world and then given a different skin and label. Do they use different quality componenets for the different contracts to manufacture? Maybe some but probably not all that different.

255 to 258 is all bulb replacement in my manual.

252 to 253 contain the replacement instructions in my manual and they are very basic and generic. Only item of note is turn the turck off and let it sit at rest for 2 minutes before disconnecting the battery.

XL and XLT have group 48. Lariat has group 94 I believe.
Mine is dying or dead after 110K miles...last two start needed assist from my NOCO...last night I fully charged it and it still needed a bump start this morning...

Has anyone dropped a 94 in to an XLT and is Forscan needed?

Which brick/mortar store can I go to pick up one right away? Thanks!

Why does O'Reilly say this does not fit?

O'Reilly's can be silly sometimes. That said you should be able to drop it in with no problems. Just make sure you do the BMS Reset. You can use ForScan or use the procedure in the owners manual.

Essentially it resets the Battery Monitor so it knows the battery is in good shape. If you do not reset it you can have various annoying issues
