I've had my 34 (33.9 285/75/17) Toyo OpenCountry AT3s (C rating ones not E) for a little less than a week and I'm impressed. I haven't noticed a dramatic loss of power (if at all) but I do mostly highway driving during the week. Weekends I try to go off the beaten path and they've performed great. The stock tires were terrible.
What I was really surprised by was the MPG hit, I'm getting less than a 4 mpg difference and most of the time its like 2 less or so. I do think if I went with the E rating which are a bit heavier it would have been worse. I think the C ratings are a good compromise, albeit hard to find. I'll post some pictures when I get home. Been meaning to do a show case...
I use the Ford Performance tune to adjust for my 33.6" tire, without adjusting the trans shifts were timed terribly lugging constantly and the speedo was off 4.5mph at 65.For those of you that are running larger tires, how do you reset the speedometer to account for the larger tire diameters? I don’t imagine it’s like the old days where you could just swap out the gear on the tranny end of the speed cable. Is it just a forscan change, or are you guys just sticking on the new tires and calling it good? Curious if the loss in MPG people report is really as bad as theyre saying, or if they’re just running uncalibrated. Performance loss aside, you can easily lose a couple of MPG from an uncalibrated speedo.
I corrected my speedometer through my tune but I think you can do it through Forscan too. If your mpg don't match your hand calculation you can correct that easy by following the link below. I started at 944 and it took about 5-6 tanks to correct itself. For those of you that are running larger tires, how do you reset the speedometer to account for the larger tire diameters? My experiences were not about overtaking a Tesla...just ran into a few that were on my tail and instead of doing a stupid move like brake checking someone...I just go into sport mode and leave a healthy space between us...then it begins. Not sure why it’s usually a Tesla or BMW. ?Is that a thing that Tesla drivers are sensitive about? I swear I've never encountered one on the roads that didn't speed up when I go to overtake them.
I have 255/80r17 Cooper ST Maxx and they're awesome. I'd add those to your list. I've had the wildpeaks in the past and they're good too but the Coopers have tougher sidewalls and a more aggressive tread. I think Duratracs and the wildpeaks are pretty comparable. They both kick ass in the snow if you care about that. I think I still average about 17-18 mpg with those, 3" lift and steel skids on 87 octane. I can get 19mpg on 91 octane if i drive gentle. This has been an interesting read. Stuck between Duratrac 255/75 and Wildpeak AT3 255/80. $32 difference so it may come down to how much mileage is lost between the two.
Possibly depending on your offset. It’ll probably be close though. You can also remove the plastic cover to gain some room or even loosen the front ones and push them back a bit.So, I have 265/70/17's also, and I would love to make the next step up (285/70). I have the Fox 2.0 leveling kit (front at max=roughly 3").
I see a few people say they switched back from 33's. I am also interested in opinions of who would do it again, and who would switch to smaller tires if possible.
Was anyone able to fit the 33's without cutting/mods to crash bar?
There's some pretty big curbs there to justify them. ?If my truck had 4wd, I would run a taller slimmer tire. 265/85/17ish?
Not a mall crawler-but giving Costco and Home Depot a chance for victory...LOL
Usually need a spotter around Xmas tree time...it gets pretty gnar LOLThere's some pretty big curbs there to justify them. ?
