I wasn't too worried about it and even when I had my accident for some reason the air bags (none of them) never went off and I was going around 25 mph. It was loosely placed in there (no ties or clips holding it) and the wire would've never held the air bag with the force the air bag would've had.
I hope you're right, I am about to run the power cable through there in addition to the rear cam cable. I opted for an OBD adapter for power, it has the ignition on only option, or the constant power option with low voltage detection/shut off.
So two wires potentially across the A-pillar air bag. Hmmmm!

Has anybody pulled down the A-pillar cover? How hard is it, and can you easily get camera wires BEHIND the airbag?

I had a front and rear camera too. The link below shows how I did mine and yours should be similar. I ran the rear cam from the back forward so all the excess wiring was tucked behind the rear seat. I wasn't sure about pulling off the A pillar moulding so that's what I tucked it loosely around the edge. With my luck it would've went off and I'd have a bigger mess on my hands. lol

Ah, you meant side view mirror (not rear view mirror). I was looking for one for the rear view mirror.
"i have a t-harness connector that plug into the rear view mirror to power my dashcam, plug and play"

Thanks for sharing though :)
I am lost here

The above IS for the (Rear View Mirror) it taps off of the wire harness that is factory installed, under the cover.
Now if you do not have the (Auto-Dim) mirror then you will need a factory harness to get the (Auto-Dim-Connector) to give a connector for the Dongar to tap off from.

So you replace the current harness (if you do NOT have - Auto-Dim mirror with one of the ones below - then add the Dongar (T-Harness to power the dash cam.

The Factory Harness Part Numbers are as follows:

But this Part Number - If NO RAIN SENSE is Installed. KB3Z-14A411-C
4-Total Connectors
Main
Auto-Dim Mirror

IPMA Heater

I didn't know what key words to search for, so if this is in another thread, please merge there.
I just watched a compelling video illustrating the potential danger of routing a dash cam cable across the a-pillar. If the ranger airbag runs down the length of the a-pillar, and you simply stuff the wire into the seam between the pillar cover and ceiling panel, you are placing the cable right across the airbag.
Is this a concern on the Ranger? You might be able to reroute the cable behind the airbag, but you will need to pull away the pillar cover and you are risking exposure to the actual airbag.
Thoughts?
I ran mine there with some slack and I believe it's okay. I did not pull off the trim, just pushed the wire gently in with a small trim tool.

The wire just sits inside the location you mention and the across at the very top, I doubt the air bag goes into the headliner.

However, I imagine that the wire would blow out if the air bag went off and, if tangled, the dashcam wire runs loosely in the headliner to the cam. That wire would easily pull out if it was pulled taut by the bag (it sometimes droops out and is lightly tucked in).

Additionally, the rear cam wire also runs up the A-pillar.

I was under the impression that I could tap into the windshield/mirror cover thingy and wire up the dashcam , is that not an option ?
Only on fancy pants models. My XL has the poor, working, dump runner's rear view mirror.

No, Dongar for me. But I did use one in my wife's Mazda, and it was incredibly easy and superior.

Ok, I ran the additional cable for the OBDII power adapter across the A-pillar in addition to the rear cam cable. Looks like I am catching the very upper portion of the air bag. So hopefully, like others have said, the deploying bag will just blow past the cam cables and not limit bag deployment to any degree.

Ah! I see. My mistake. Thank you for the explanation.
Is there any easy way to tell if my mirror is autodim or not? Not sure i've notived.
I have a '21 XLT with 302A / tech package. I don't see it listed on the window sticker, but i'm not sure if it would be listed or not.
The mirror does not seem to have the small mirror pivot tab.

Also, one of the amazon reviews said this:
"It did what it’s supposed to do for the most part. The cable length was perfect and install was easy. The unit continued to pull power even when the truck was off. Each day I would walk out with a low battery, even bought a jumper pack. Once I removed the adapter, I no longer needed to use the battery jumper."

Using forscan I'd long changed the general power outputs to stop after 1 minute; is this power tap going to register that change, or is it alwys-on?

That looks great and I doubt it'll ever be an issue.

Plus, us Ranger peeps are pretty defensive drivers. I'd hate to total mine and think of all the time and money lost in mods!

Hmm, next Soupie mod! Speed Racer Mach 5 jumpy legs and buzz saws could prevent accidents!

The best practice when routing wires and cables around the Curtain Airbags is to route it to the side or behind. If that requires temporarily removing the curtain airbag, then do so. Just make sure the Battery has been disconnected and the key turned to the on position so you can drain all the power from the SRS

I'll be finding out if the Ranger is any different than my last cars in this regard, but I've rolled a car with wiring around the A-pillar bags... nbd. Best to run them behind the bags and tying knots is right out.

I routed my wire behind the airbag. I took off the trim, be careful it has a plastic holding it to the frame, and never had an issue. As long as the wire is behind the airbag not in front. The option to wire with the aftermarket product is good too. Having an issue with where to plug things on my 6g. Wireless android helps.
I had this plug in, plugged into the driver side cigarette lighter, and had a dash cam and flashlight plugged into it. Zip tied it under the steering wheel panel next to a brake controller module

I am about to install my fitcamx today. Looks like a super easy install as it comes with connectors to power it from either the auto dim mirror or rain sensors. I like how it's molded into the factory style plastic cover and no running wires.

Thinking of pulling the trigger on this Dashcam.

How do you like it, Review? If you don't mind.

This is one of those gadgets that I do not really need or want BUT would be nice to have and with this unit being (Factory Fit-Look) is pushing me to want it.
I am more curious about the Rear Cam (Mounting) as I do not want to chance damaging the rear heater grid.
